Disappearing Snow Leopard

A desolate snow covered landscape
where strong winds blast the rock face
with very little vegetation
what could survive in this cold place ?

This is a harsh environment
steep imposing cliffs meet the ground
where habitats give good camouflage
rare snow leopards maybe found

With lush thick white and yellow fur
marked by ringed spots of black on brown
watching all with such light green eyes
planning to bring their next prey down

Snow leopards have beautifully long tails
paws adapted to walk on deep snow
able to ambush unsuspecting prey
by chasing down before the fatal blow

Mostly active between dawn and dusk
this silent big cat that can`t roar
solitary by nature, `til breeding
their survival we must ensure

Sadly these majestic creatures
are becoming such a rare sight
with the loss of their range and hunting
this means they are losing their fight

Fearsome Dragon and The Young Knight

There was a low grumbling emitted from the cave
outside the entrance were large rocks and many bones
trembling, the young knight stepped forward. his knees knocking
it was so dark in that place and he feared the groans

he knew he had to enter and kill the Dragon

that much was fore told in the book of their great king
but how was he suppose to slay this mighty beast?
with just his sword, he needed to think of something

as he tiptoed forward he heard that sound again

it must be a very angry Dragon in there
the book told of many knights who had gone before
but none had returned alive, he was full of despair

slowly he moved forward, step by step he entered

standing there, he let his eye get use to the dark
he looked around and found many more bones scattered
with a lump in his throat, his quest he had to embark

this young knight started to walk further in the cave

it was very hard to see where he was treading
with his sword in hand he peered around the corner
before him was the dragon, sat on his bedding

the dragon is not as big as he had first thought

large scales and a long tail with a sharp point at the end
its eyes were big and sad as if he`d been crying
the knight was so unsure, should he kill or befriend

feeling in his heart that the dragon wouldn`t hurt him

the knight put down his weapon and smiled at the beast
it nodded its head and sort of smiled back at him
that instant they knew that the hostilities had ceased

from that very moment on, the two were great friends

the dragon showed him the bones were beasts of the wood
the young knight knew he wanted to help the dragon
now he would tell the king that everything was good

so he devised a good plan that would save them both

the knight would slay the dragon and get his reward
the dragon would leave his cave by night and fly off
all would be happy and they would meet up abroad.

the plan worked and all were content for many years

but sadly the truth is that dragons out live knights
so he returned to his cave and resumed his life
reaping mayhem and terror through the winter nights.

I have always been fascinated by knights and dragons and wanted to write a poem about them but with a twist.  I hope you enjoy this one.

Christmas Day

The build up to this special day
with all the usual traditions
will always full me with surprise
I have to set the right conditions

tree is set in the best position
and presents placed correctly
food prepared and smells so good
for family will arrive directly

there`s so much anticipation
as all is done in it`s special way
this Festive season has begun
so let`s enjoy our Christmas Day !

Christmas

with a twinkling Star
placed on top the tree
tinsel and baubles
all dazzling to see

cards on the mantle
presents wrapped up too
mistletoe by the door
Merry Christmas to you

That Festive Feeling ...

It`s a Merry Christmas kind of feeling
tree is up and tinsel hangs from the ceiling

presents wrapped in different coloured paper
all stacked up like a towering skyscraper

cards with cheery messages are seen
along with festive decorations in-between

with family favourite on the telly
and wonderful treats at the ready

so as all our family comes together
this is a wonderful time to treasure

Cat amongst the crib

I don`t mean to be disrespectful
but this spot is very comfortable

snuggled among these little creatures
even though they`re Christmas features

I really hoped you wouldn't see me
after the problems with last year tree

so I`m here to guard baby Jesus
until he`s big enough to protect us !

Visited my husband`s grave today and this is the poem I left there for him
along with a Christmas wreath,

Christmas Prayer

Through the year I think of you
and remember our time together
for each season holds a memory
that remains with me forever

missing your cheeky laughter
and the way you held me tight
for you filled my heart with joy
brightening up my soul with light

my Christmas prayer this year

is one that means so much to me

that you would join us at this time

and once more we`d be a family

Merry  Christmas  Steve
love and miss you always  xXx

Black Hole of the Heart

Black on black through utter darkness
deep spiralling holes pierce my soul
a void that can not be filled in
sadly I will never be whole

Anger raging round my system
causing an emotional flood
through this sad and torn heart
slowly oozing thick red rich blood

As all my will power drains away
life seems unworthy to behold
so let this existence depart
from this harsh and unyielding world

Depression brings on depressing poems... that help cleanse the soul !

True Christmas

On Christmas eve it was so cold
like it was all those years before
as a couple tried to find a room
but they're only offered a stable floor

amongst the hay and ox and ass
the saviour of the world was born
laid in a manger warm and safe
watched over by Mary, `til the morn

there were shepherds in the field
all guarding their flock by night
when a heavenly host appeared
telling them of the child, with delight

leaving to visit the baby
travelling to the little stable
bearing gifts for baby Jesus
showing him love, as they were able

Mary takes this all to her heart
God has told her, he was precious
so as we gather altogether
let`s remember that first Christmas

In this day and age, Christmas seems to be about presents, food, decorations and cards, but that was not how it use to be.  Maybe it`s time to remember the true meaning of Christmas and the birth of baby Jesus.

Merry Christmas to you all !!

The Festive Season !

Christmas Time, Mistletoe and Wine ....
At least that`s how the song goes.   In the movies, Christmas is depicted as a wonderful time, shopping all done, the tree is up and decorated.  Pets snoozing contentedly by a roaring fire while the children play nicely. Lights sparkling and snow is falling as friends call round with gifts to share !

In the real world, mothers are stressed with all the shopping, preparations and cooking.  Fathers bewildered while dealing with the tree, work`s party and in-laws.  Kid`s Christmas present lists are longer and more expensive and the cost of the festive season has gone through the roof!

It`s a shame that the real meaning of Christmas is no longer relevant ..... bringing families together and celebrating not only the birth of Jesus, but also love and understanding and the joy of families and all that`s good in the world.

As you come together with your family around the Christmas Tree, opening your presents after a deliciously fulfilling meal and watching a seasonal movie ..... please give a thought to the ones who haven`t eaten a meal and don`t have any family to share gifts with. Some may not even have a roof over the heads.   I`m not appealing to you to give donations, but as you enjoy your festive season, please think about these people and give thanks for all that you have been lucky enough to have in your lives !

So may your meal be amazing, the tree decorations look fabulous, each coloured light bulb work perfectly. Here`s to everyone loving their presents and your home be warm and cosy as your pets sleep contently while snow lays on the ground, glistening around, as laughter is heard in the distance bringing merriment to everyone.

Here`s to a wonderfully magical Christmas !
