Hedgehog
Little bundle of prickles
curled up tight in a ball
can`t see his tiny feet
nor his bright eyes at all
this tight little bundle
with thousands of spines
still looks such a cutie
masterful of all designs
keeping warm and safe
hiding amongst the worms
through winter he hibernates
until the warm weather returns

Perfect spot
one quiet sunny afternoon
through the shafts of dappled sunlight
drifting along this gentle path
enjoying the wonders of delight
a babbling brook nearby
meanders along its pathway
minnows, frogs and sticklebacks
can be seen all through the day
primroses and bramble flowers
birds singing their many songs
the warmth of the gentle sun
shows that everything belongs.

Tears after the Rain
Red rosy poppies
such sensual beauty
drenched in teardrops
over their rich contours
soft rounded petals
and dark black centers
shimmering in the sun
each sparkling droplet
drops down to the ground
sparkling in the light
as they glisten there
in the evening hue
a picture of wonder
tears after the rain...!

Broken Promises
promises don`t mean
that much no more
they just make
my heart so sore
had them broken
many a time
got so use to
this type of crime
don`t expect anything
from you now
and certainly
will not kowtow
for you have stripped me
of emotions
what divides us
are many oceans
then I will carry on
along my way
so I can strive
to life another day
for I`ll not be
dragged through the dirt
as broken promises
really do hurt

Halloween Witch
With her stripey stockings
and a black pointed hat
travelling on a broom stick
accompanied by the cat
flying cross the landscape
causing mayhem everywhere
mumbling spells as she goes
creating sparks in the air
as the witches gather
on this Halloween night
parking up their broom sticks
it`s really, quite a sight
in a clearing in the wood
many witches can be seen
casting their spooky spells
celebrating Halloween!

Steel and Feather
Tender touch of a soft feather
against the cold blade of steel
lightness in beauty is found
crossing paths with the snake
luscious downy warmth beneath
marble pattern forged metal
light as a feather against
this sleek lethal weapon
how does such opposites
come together so well
a wondrous combination
of crafted blade and beauty!

Hug Time
Family life is amazing
mother is always nearby
there`s nothing more that I need
that a hug with mum
under a bright blue sky!
friends to play with
climbing along the branches
tumbling around the green grass
then another quick hug
hiding in shady patches
there are many types of hugs
snuggling up close when scared
or being told off for being naughty
best ones are mum`s hugs
for a bedtime story!

By the light of the moon
as it catches the tips of her fur
she waits, sniffing the air
what danger lurks near her
hardly visible among the trees
silent as she stands there
in her thick brown coat
warmed by each think hair
as an owl hoots in the distance
she moves into the night
time to snuggle down and sleep
she`ll hunt in the morning light.

Picnic with a Cat
Come, join the picnic
Mistress pussy cat
sat in the garden
no need for a hat
as the sun is out
shining warm and bright
with you beside me
makes an awesome sight
a piece of chicken
to start you off well
followed by some cream
it`s the purfect spell
now you're curled up snug
for you've had your lot
sleep off this picnic
in this sunny spot.!

Gorilla
This mighty Western Lowland gorilla
standing proud for all his troop to see
determined to defend yet very gentle
the master of his whole family
muscular arms and a powerful roar
that can be heard throughout the land
wearing his distinctive silvered back
no one will argue that he`s in command
travelling through the dense forests by day
he leads around their territory he`s known
family nests in the trees are built each night
he`s too heavy, so sleeps on the ground alone
this silverback is a powerful champion
very adaptable and intelligent
always protecting his troop with his life
for this gorilla is simply magnificent

Hello Autumn
Autumn arrives in a blaze of colours
nights get colder and days get shorter
crispiness felt under foot in the morning
welcomes in the year`s fourth quarter
trees put on their multi colours coats
bright red, orange and yellow attire
dancing merrily in the afternoon breeze
swirling, twirling higher and higher
swirling, twirling higher and higher
walking through this golden landscape
in autumn colours cocoon of silence
a feeling of warm flows over the soul
even after summer season`s absence
to be amongst these gorgeous colours
run through leaves in boots for no reason
laugh, smile and enjoy every moment
come, say "hello" to this colourful season

Splashes of a Rainbow
Splashes of colours
across my sheet of paper
creating mini images
completely unplanned caper
they look so bright here
splattered in a line now
like a kaleidoscope
colours of a rainbow
each splash of ink here
forms into their own shape
all so very different
let your mind eye escape
as each drop of ink
spreads across the surface
the colours merge together
these patterns have no purpose
so, enjoy the splashes
across my paper here
exploring all the beauty
as these pictures appear...!

Language of Words
Burn sentences so the turn to dust
take each letter and cleanse the poetry I write
Let the blind see what the deaf can't hear
spurring on the lame to win the fight
So mix and spin the language of passion
creating pictures from deep within the mind
Spoken or written, let all the words flow
capturing them within the soul for us to find

Corgi's Lament
It was time for my walk in the garden
so, I looked for you everywhere
my leach, still hanging from its hook
in the silence, no one was there
just a quiet place, no laughter heard
no soft tones of your voice calling me
missing your gentle touch on my fur
where have you gone, have you left me?
I can smell your scent on the sofa
see your scarf and coat on the door
yet I still cannot find you anywhere
so, I'll sit and wait on the kitchen floor

What Poetry means to me...
For me, being able to write helps me to find some freedom within motherhood and all that goes on around me. I can enter any world I please and be engulfed in all its mysteries and emotions. taste it`s wonders and know that I can leave at any moment I chose.
To pick up my pen and let the ink flow freely across my paper, is a fabulous feeling as I am never quite sure where it will take me. I can be influenced by events around me, an emotion or even a word or image.
I do, however, love a challenge …. it`s very rewarding to be given a topic and asked to write a poem about a question on that topic. I have written about washing lines, a flying businessman, and a sparkling haddock lol. What will be my next challenge?
I keep a pencil and notepad by my bed and one in my car too. I never know when a poem will start to form so I`ll need to be able to write it down. I find a pencil is easier to write things down quickly.
Poetry also helps me to express my feelings, allowing me to express my true emotions and how they affect me throughout my life. This includes happy times, fun times, sadly ties and unexpected events. I let them flow from my soul on to paper through my pencil and there it stays for me to remember or learn from and even share with others.
So why not give poetry a go, open your heart and soul and let your emotions, passions and imagination flow freely and see where your poetry will take you.
Above all, enjoy the moment!

Butterflies are like silent fluttering rainbows, brightening up our world!
Butterflies
Paper wings fluttering on the wind
bright colours flashing through the light
many shimmering tones in the sun
warming up together, before flight
silently assembling in great hoards
drawing strength as one in the day
reds, whites, purples and pale blues
catching attention in a big way.
while flitting from flower to flower
tasting wonderful nectar with care
these bright majestic insects
using their long tongues with flair
wonderful insects for all to see
filling our lives with great pleasure
bright beautiful butterflies
they are here for us to treasure.

Frozen Rainbow
Through a frosted surface
feathered features can be spied
bathed in many different colours
this rainbow trapped inside
delicate details preserved
capturing a moment in time
this wonder of sheer beauty
shows nature at its prime
such a little frozen world
so colourful to the eye
caught up in an icy orb
this miniature bubble we see

Be Yourself
indulge in the riches
soak up the love of life
discover new treasures
where ever they may be
delve deep, seek far
and you will find
don`t bury your head
in the cold wet sand
open your eyes and see
what the world has to offer
never say never
always be true to yourself
honesty and kindness
makes a true person
smile and the world smiles with you
if your fall, get up again
there`s always tomorrow
to start over again
have a humble heart
and know you`ll never walk alone!

Start of Autumn
September rumblings
autumn`s now on its way
the warmth has left the sun
cold blue skies here to stay
weather`s unpredictable
but that's how I like it
maybe we`ll have snow soon
it strengthens the spirit!
bright colours on the trees
they`re changing their attire
orange, reds and yellows
summer can now retire
it`s like another world
low lying misty mornings
everything is shrouded
sending winter warnings
crunchiness under foot
and a bite in the air
wrap up well and stay warm
it`s time to take good care
September`s a great month
marks a change in the year
as earth start to sleep
for winter will be here..
