Notable tones of seasonal blues
Overtures of autumn times
Visible breathe in darkened dawn
Early evenings snug by the fireside
Mittens, scarves, coats and hats
Bitter cold starts and frosty nights
Explosive fireworks around a bonfire
Radiating the joys of autumn!

 Angry Storm

It`s one of those days today
the weather`s in a bad mood
such a big temper tantrum
so much damage has been viewed

winds lashing at everything
throwing items all around
whistling through the rafters
crashing trees across the ground

high seas thrashing at the coast
white tipped waves raging onward
smashing up against the land
and yet we won`t be conquered

roads and bridges have been closed
sand bags are all at the ready
this storm s getting pretty angry
we have to keep everything steady

this fiercely raging angry storm
battering us along the way
all frozen, soaked and tired too
a tempestuous kind of day

have to let this tantrum clear
for this turmoil will soon cease
then we`ll pick up the pieces
once over, we hope there`ll be peace

If ……

If hugs were flowers
I`d walk through a garden to meet you

If kisses were roses
I`d leap through a flowerbed to kiss you

If peace was like an ocean
I`d sail across it to find peace with you

If love fills my heart
I`ll fly to the moon to be by your side

Autumn to Winter 🍂

Autumns golden hues
red and orange and yellow
trees alight with bright colours
carpets of leaves covering the ground
being splashed around by
wellington booted children
clad in scarves, hat and mitts,
puffing clouds of steam
as they race around the park.

The trees are looking bare
now they`ve lost their summer coats
but here and there a holly tree
defiant in its green
squirrels red and grey alike
stocking up their larders
to see the winter through.

Darker now the evenings
and colder all around
people hurrying to get home
to warm their weary bones

The grass is crunchier underfoot
Jack Frost has danced around
he leaves the park all muffled
impressions of black and white.
winter has crept in
through the gap in Autumns door
and caught us all unaware
until it shouts BOO !!!!!!

      sweet
                aroma
   warm invite
         from the cold
   frozen winter
cold hands
fire roaring
         curled up snug
cuddling my cup
       of hot coffee
all topped with cream
with sprinkles, so tasty
nibbling  on  chocolate
in the warmth  of a fire
so shut out winter
wrapped up in a
cosy blanket
with a crumbly cookie is
most welcome!

It`s a Cat`s Life

Curled up sleepy on the sofa
taking no notice of anyone
dreaming of chasing playful mice
after a great day having fun

climbing trees while eyeing up birds
by the pond splashing for fish
but, best of all, racing around
a cat completing every wish

Stretching out slowly, then yawning
turning round to get more cosy
cat napping is quite an art form
future`s looking very rosy!

Shoreline

blue skies reflected over the surface of the loch
gentle ripples undulate towards the shoreline
while fluffy white cotton clouds float in between
patterns across the waters under bright sunshine

along the edge between water and cobbled shore
are scattered stones in different shades of grey
like a no man's land, take care where you walk
such a beautiful calming scene on an autumn day

Treasured possessions in need of help
Holding memories for so many families
Experts on hand with their talent and care

Repairing broken objects brought to the barn
Eliminating people`s guilt and heartache
Paintings, bikes, stereos, cots to Teddy Bears
Amazing stories connected to these treasures
Items lovingly brought back from their past
Repair Shop is where miracles happen

Smiles, tears of joy and plenty of laughter
Heirlooms to love for many years to come
Overseen by Jay,  putting everyone at ease
Precious mementoes from bygone years.

Myths and Legends of Orkney

Scapa Flow Curse

Back in the day, witches at play
the judges didn`t like what they saw
the hunt was on to find these witches
everyone had to follow the law

a woman was accused of witchcraft
and to find out if she was guilty
tied to a chair and dropped in the water
witches float, innocents sink, you see

a witch she was declared and excecated
that my friend, was the end they believed
but it was not to be, as you will see
her sister was sad she`d  been deceived

she planned to avenge her sister`s death
according to legend, she cursed the water
it would bring bad luck to Scapa Flow
after her sister was led to the slaughter

through the years bad luck has been seen
from accidents, grounding and collisions
even the Royal Navy suffered too
was this a witch's curse or bad decisions?

Mister Snowman

shimmering snow across the landscape
Mister Snowman standing so proud
long striped scarf around his neck
bright coloured hat to wear
coal buttons and eyes
a carrot for nose
twigs for arms
snowman
smiles

World Mental Health Day 2023

Depression

I have been told
I suffer from depression
mental health
they say,
emotional
unstable
well
that`s not me, I`m sure

just being a mother
can get you down
mental stress
more like it
exhaustion
memory loss
need
a little attention

when times are hard
a helping hand counts
mental friction
loss of confidence
need a new start
love and hugs
see
I've now got it sussed

a little help
goes such a long way
mental care
a kind gesture
relaxation
chilling time
so
we`re working together

Waterfall

Down in the depths of the forest
From what seems to be the heavens
Water cascades down with such force
Moving mountains as it goes
Pouring gallons over the edge
Deep into the bowels of the earth
White foaming masses of volume
Thundering past the solid rocks
Covering the area with fine spray
Crashing into the waters below
Roaring, pouring
Bashing, crashing
Thunderous sounds
Never ceasing, always flowing
The waterfall just keeps on going

Old Man of Hoy

The Old Man of Hoy stands majestic
looking our across the Atlantic Sea
this sea stack is four hundred years old
a stone figure standing tall and free

once joined to the sandstone headland
strata of coloured bands show it`s history
this red sea stack formed by erosion
still a much loved and enjoyed mystery

a pilots initiation test during the war
flying between the cliff and sea-stack
the gap was only sixty metres wide
was preparing them for enemy attack

this old man is popular with climbers
UK`s tallest, with breathtaking views
standing up to the fury of the weather
from sunny moments, and misty hues

Old Man of Hoy is eroding slowly
until beneath to waves he`ll slide under
this famous figure, that bring much joy!
till then we should cherish his wonder

New home...

Treat each other with respect
then you'll never feel regret
always be caring and kind
thus creating peace of mind
together you'll never be alone
this will make your flat a home !

Santa

Sounds of sleigh bells jingling across the sky
As Santa flies by with his reindeers
Naughty children had better behave
Time to sleep so Santa will visit
And in the morn there`ll be surprises galore!

Watching a blacksmith at work is amazing, and I am honoured to have had the chance.

The Blacksmith

Fire, steel, rivets and hammer
dust, noise, red hot metal
anvil, tongs and sheer power
the blacksmith has it all

forge fired up and ready
with tools all standing by
leather apron now in place
anticipation is high

arc of sparks from the grinder
flash across the workshop
powering on through the day
working hard until you drop

hammer clashes down on metal
an air of expectation
as slowly the piece is formed
stand back and see his creation
