The smell of rain.....

With dark ominous clouds about
the smell of rain is in the air
large droplets fall from the sky
as if the heavens had shed a tear

splats of water landing heavily
bring life to our awesome earth
helping to stimulate new life
thus encouraging so much rebirth

with large drops splashing on the ground
but not getting me really wet
I watch the black skies moving away
showing a rainbow I won`t forget

so as the rain recedes from view
a blue sky is revealed to me
the earth smells stronger of the rain
makes just another memory

large droplets of rain, leave a strong smell of rain on the ground

Death comes to all of us...

There are two certainties in our lives,  firstly that we experience birth and secondly, that we will experience death, however, everything in between is a mystery.

I received a sad phone call Saturday morning, that my father was found dead in his home. So I immediately travelled to his home over the Severn Bridge, to help my siblings with the aftermath of our father`s death.

Clearing up after his death, emptying out the fridge and freezer, checking his study for information about his solicitor, will and other helpful papers, and checking everything was okay, was something that had to be done. Notifying distant family members and neighbours etc had to be done too.  This we all did together while offering love and support. So now we wait for the death certificate to be issued and move on to the next stage in the process after a death.

It has been strange to go through so many different emotions over the next 24 hours, from sadness, pain, regret and many more. It was good to know that I wasn't alone and had my siblings with me.  We lost our mother six years ago, so this is going to be harder.

Can`t believe how hard it was to sit down with my children and tell them what had happened to their grandfather. They all took the news in different ways, but together I know we can help and support each other.

I should be getting use to all this having buried my husband, mother and now father, however, each one has been different and hard in its own way.  I have found that though thee events re emotional, I have grown stronger and more understanding of others as they go through a death.

The healing process after a bereavement takes time and you have move forward at your own pace. Don`t  let other tell you that you should be over a bereavement in so many months...this is not true and we all heal in our own way.

To all those who have lost a loved one, I send you my condolences and prayers, take your time and look after yourself while you do, as knocking yourself down will not bring your love one back, it will most likely bring you down further.

Awaken

A gentle touch of sun light
crept across and kisses my cheek
so soft I barely felt it
a soothing caress so meek

With loving murmurs in my ear
I'm told it`s time to awake
Stirring slowly from my sleep
want this moment for a keepsake

I greet the sun with a smile
as I welcome in the morn
gently opening my eyes
the room is filled with the dawn

To wake up slowly with a tender kiss from the sun is wonderful....

Stormy times ahead

Stormy times ahead so...
batten down the hatches
stock up the cupboards
then seal all the latches
cold winds blowing
snow is coming
hard rain lashing
stormy times ahead

block up the doorways
check all windows as well
logs ready for the fire
this`ll be the storm from hell
windows rattling
snow is pitching
rivers swirling
stormy times ahead

huddled near the fire place
winds howling all around
settled in for the duration
as the storm hits the ground
winds so freezing
snow now falling
fireside blazing
Stormy times are here !

My sleeping cat

I see a sleeping cat at the end of my bed
shaped like a crescent moon, what dreams in her head?

with legs stretched out and her tail curled round
she almost looks dead because she makes no sound

if you look carefully, her breath is very slow
such a little minx, but I love her so

ears pricked up as she lays at rest
looks so content, if poked she would protest !

may look asleep, but she knows what`s going on
don`t let her fool you, she thinks it`s such fun

I see a snoozing cat who is watchful of the day
peacefully resting, but alert in every way !

A Lazy Start....!

As the morning sun creeps across my wall
leaving a trail of bright light along its way
slowly opening my eyes on the world
watching the colourful start to the day

my cat stretches out in the warm rays
purring contently as I stroke her head
her fur is static and soft to the touch
as she snoozes on the end of my bed

so cosy and snug here under my duvet
do I really have to get out of bed now?
want to watch the sun move round a bit more
no need to rush, I`l just take it nice and slow.

Playful Ferrets....

Watching them zipping in or out
as they`re bobbing up and down
with a quick flash of a tail
inquisitive eyes all around
never stay still for very long
flashing past you in a moment
then nosing at everything
ferrets full of merriment.

Racing all around the garden
chasing others through the grass
then pouncing on all that moves
peering through french window glass
popping up in daft places
exploring all our treasures
with bright eyes and cheerful smiles
these awesome playful creatures

Soft of fur and a smiley grins
hear them chittering all the while
sharp teeth that gnaw happily through toys
these sweet ferrets have their own style,
at the end of a playful day
with sleepy eyes, they curl up tight
inside their soft comfy snugs, as
they fall asleep, we say good night!

Tumbling Cat

There`s a rumbling in the kitchen
washing tumbling round and round
heat pulsating through the air
that`s where my cat will be  found !

she will sit there mesmerised
loving it`s great rocking motion
enjoying all of it`s warmth
until the end, when the door will open !

Bluebells

Pretty bells waving little blue bonnets
carpeting the woodland floor
frills of bright green bordering
filling our hearts with joys of spring

dappled sunlight lifts the spirit
filtering through the trees
spotlighting the mystery of spring
bringing nature alive !

Creativity.

There is creativity in all of us, but some of us don`t always realise it.
It`s like being in a room and not being able to find the door.

Don`t fight it, but let it flow naturally, don`t force it, let it find it`s own way.

Thre are many different paths to creativity .....
painting.....oils, watercolour, pastels, sketching and multimedia
writing.....spoken or written...stories, poetry, teaching, plays and comedy
music.....written, sung or played, singularly, in a band or a choir.
dance.... the ability to feel emotion through movement of dance, ballet, disco, ballroom etc

There are many many ways and combinations to try and even conquer, so why not have a go at something new.

I came across poetry through an unfortunate event...the death of my husband.
My children were able to express their grief through different ways, including, art, music and play. However I was unable to open up until it was suggested that I wrote my emotions down.  So I gave it ago and found that it really helped.

Once I started, my emotions flowed out onto the pages of my books.  I could express my grief and despair at what had happened to me and my family.  Following on from this, I found my writing changing, and I began to look to the future, a feeling of hope had been planned.

Now I have my blog where I post my poems on a daily basis for all to enjoy. Many people have read them, enjoyed them and commented on them...such a positive experience.
Secondly, I started to write for family and friends, this then lead to me starting my own business writing for others  and taking on commissions and earning a little money.

Throughout this, I still feel my husband, Steve, is with me, watching over me and happy that I am doing something I enjoy.

Never over look you creativity..don`t be afraid....go on, give it a go !!

Lamp Light

As the daylight starts to fade away
the hues of light now change
for the street lamps illuminate
sections of the street within their range

Lamps of the night, like stepping stones
stretch out along the pavement
capturing life in pools of light
trapping them into enslavement

Within the world of these bright lamps
Luminous spider webs are spied
woven around the light fixtures
though wind swept, they can still hide

So in the darkness of the night
many creatures will pass on by
through these little habitats of life
until the morning, when we say goodbye.

Street lamps can be an oasis of light and life......

Feathered Samurai

This stunning kestrel watches all
missing nothing with his keen sight
chest puffed out with sheer pride
a coiled spring, all ready for flight

such an awesome bird to behold
he has the strength to over power
then bring down his enemy
this magnificent warrior

dressed so smartly in rustic red
head cap and wings a deep slate blue
dark beady eyes and sharp hooked beak
brings fear to all who come into view

with long sharp menacing talons
as his most striking feature
he`s mastered all that he surveys
this powerful cunning creature

tt`s a wonderful privilege
to watch him glide high in the sky
and to hear his call on the wind
as he dives down on his prey with flair

fly free with the wind dear kestrel
soar high above the countryside
smartly dressed in your fine colours
knowing your there, fills us with pride!

Solitude

Through the silence I walk
the gentle crunch under my feet
muffled noises all around
as I spy a dim lit seat

For under the park light
a snow covered bench is seen
though cold, it`s quiet inviting
a white throne for a queen

All around is darkness
as this seat sits in a pool of light
crisp foot prints near by
creating a wondrous sight

This scene so fit for royalty
invites me to come and rest a while
though cold, it`s peaceful here
distant light gives it an eerie smile

Leaving my foot prints behind me
I accept the sweet invitation
solitude and quietness
love this wondrous temptation

I will always remember you when
I walk up the stairs
I will always remember you when
I am so far away

I can`t hug you or hold your hand now but
I will always remember you
All The things that you gave me will
Remind me that you were there for me.

Valentine`s Day

Valentine`s day

It`s that time of year again, where love is in the air !
Valentine`s Day is a day to show your true love just how much they are loved.
This day appeals to lovers of all ages, from all walks of life and all parts of the world !

From red roses, hearts and chocolates to more meaningful shows of affection, that are personal to each couple.  Over the years these gifts have got more and more extravagant!
The meaning of couples has also changed and therefore so have the gift ideas too.

Personally, Valentine`s Day doesn`t hold that much for me, as my husband was given his wings nearly 10 years ago. However I hold many, many wonderful memories of our time spent together and treasure every one of them.

Though couples show their love for each other everyday, Valentine`s Day is a special time to really go to town and show their love more intensely.  A love token, meal, time together all help to make this day really special for each couple.

At the beginning of each relationship, every Anniversary, Birthday, Christmas and Valentine`s day are so important and a great time to show how strong their love is for each other.   As the years progress, these occasions are not so important, as other milestone come into view. Achievements, children and even grandchildren take up their attention.  Their love is still important and as time goes by, they begin know each other better, know what they like, how they feel or how they will react.  This just goes to show how they have moulded into a wonderful, loving couple.

Though I don`t celebrate Valentine`s Day, I still remember my husband, Steve, and all our achievements we shared together. I take great joy in our children and look forward to celebrating all their future achievements.

So to all those who are celebrating Valentine`s day,  I hope you all have a wonderfully enjoyable and loving day.

Lissie

Walkies in the Rain

Racing around the park
paws splashing in puddles
sunshine and showers
with rainbows all ablaze
jumping in the lake
all through the afternoon
as you chase the ducks
in and out the waters
your fur dripping wet
all the fun and games
as the sun comes out
feeling warmth on your face
watching you shake
shake all the rain from your fur
twisting and turning
spraying rain drops
in different directions
baring your teeth n a grin
and your soak me too!
love our walkies in the rain
