Chocolate Trophies

Chocolate bunnies and Easter eggs
filling the store shelves and our heads
brightly coloured and so inviting
these excitingly awesome spreads

there`s different surprises to behold
eyes open wide with the promise of fun
what will be inside these sweet eggs
kids can`t wait for the day to come

and on the morning they rush down stairs
to find their trophies of the day
with cardboard boxes all discarded
it`s chocolate heaven all the way.!

Happy Easter everyone!

Stilted Pathway!

By the blue lagoon waters
a stilted pathway is spied
meandering in its way
like a stumbling drunkard
on his journey home
across this serene bay

In these turquoise waters
each wooden post sunk deep
holding firm against the tide
and steadfast in its path
damp under our feet
drawing us to the far side.

Seeing these tree posts
like fossils from the past
standing proud of the surface
enabling us to venture
safely across the bay
there's mystery in the place

Painting with words

The ink in my pen

paints a picture
for all to read

the love in my soul
stimulates all
that`s in my heart

painting a scene
through the use of words
focusing the mind

writing poetically
opens my inner self
to all that`s around me

for with coloured inks
I can paint the world
for all to read......

Star Light

Spirally across the sky
spinning brightly as it goes
lighting up the night time
where it's going, no one knows

Strands of gold seeking space
testing out the atmosphere
as it moves across the horizon
casting patterns of light so near

Hues of reds and gold we see
spinning and pulsating along
orbiting celestial force
with a fiery tail, so strong

Moving swiftly along its course
streaks of colour across the moon
like candles flickering on by
this star light will be gone too soon

Standing proud on the horizon
a master of all he surveys

handsome, and he knows it
commanding so much praise !

On my own

I`m sat here all alone
with a house full of kids
all hidden in their rooms
treating home like their own digs

there`s food in the larder
and a meal on the table
but they`re in their bedrooms
with all chores incapable

so I`m sat watching TV
curling up on sofa chilling
maybe they`ll come say hi
makes a drink, if they`re willing

gone are the day`s we shared
for now it`s not the same
I`m not at their beck and call
just sat here on my own again

Today was the funeral of my Father, so I spent the day with my family and close friends.
The service was lovely with his favourite hymns and reading, the eulogy captured his life so well and there were a few chuckles to be heard around the church.
I read the poem I had written for my Father, though I found it hard to do, I am so proud that I did.
Rest in peace as you are reunited with our Mother in eternity.

Fear

Tip toeing through life
is an unpleasant to do
wondering which direction
the fear will strike at you

what fear around the corner
makes me so frustrated
where will the blow appear
I`m always humiliated

laughter directed at me
so painful to the core
can`t they leave me alone
I don`t want this any more !

I`m just a timid person
minding my own business
but fear has a different plan
will no one be my witness ?

never asked for attention
just wanted to be myself
and stay out of harms way
just place me back on the shelf !

A Special Mother

There is one day each year
when we are glad to show
a very special lady
just how much we love her so

For she is a special person
who'd do anything for us
always there with a kind word
and never makes a fuss

A smile for us each morning
and a chat around the table
cuddles when we need support
making our lives more stable

We love you so very much
and celebrate this day
showing you how much we care
in our own unique way

Therefore at the special time
we give praise for our Mother
and thank her for all she does
as we`ll never have another

Happy Mothering Sunday

Good Night

As the moon shimmers
over many of  life`s oceans
as you rest peacefully in bed
rocked to sleep by it`s gentle motions

dream sweetly of all that`s good
as you drift on through the night
until morning breaks it`s surface
and your day is warm and bright

I was having a joke with my son about "slipping halos" and it got me thinking
this poem is the result, hope you like it... !

Playful Angels

Oops my halo`s slipped again
I mustn't take it off to play
Maybe I shouldn't remove it at all
An Angel`s image is to stay and pray

I have this desire to skip and jump
Hate being the silent helper too
Want to sing and make daisy chains
Why can`t I dance and play with you?

The Archangels calmly tell me off
They say I should be more demure
Respectful of the old traditions
But making children smile is best for sure

I`m sorry I get it all wrong
Maybe one day I`ll live and learn
But until then we`ll have some fun
Please give me a chance, don`t be too stern!

My Heavenly Moon

A tiny speck of light
shines through the dark night
way up high in the sky
where angelic angels fly
this orb of fire that I see
what, I wonder could it be
floating slowly along blinking
smiling down on me and winking
it feels good to see it there
Sparkling with so much flair
this sweet heavenly sphere
that fills me with great cheer
hope to see you again real soon
my bright shiny heavenly moon

On a clear night, it`s great to see the bright shiny orb we call the moon!

perfect snow to race downhill
with skis and goggles at the ready
this day will prove to be a thrill.

Pure Tranquillity

Light transforms
this atmosphere
for relaxation
soft lapping tide
stillness of the day
peace, tranquillity

Silence of time
floating on by
with a gentle breeze
calming the soul
through the slow movement
of ebbing waters

Undulating motions
of rippling oceans
flows continuously
gently reassuring
through changing skies
shimmering above

Such heart felt love
nurtured tenderly
in this peaceful place
where time stands still
as the soul sings
for this cherished moment.

Sweet Dreams....

As the sun dips down slowly
a thousand stars light up the sky
dream time descends upon your heart
painting wonderful scenes in your mind
as you drift away the night in slumber...!

Forrest

Two years on
and I`m still thinking of you
missing all we had
only memories to hold on too

miss your laughter
the friendly smile you wore
your zest for life
kindness through to the core

so rest in peace
my sweet angel Forrest
always remembered
ever missed, forever blessed !

Sleeping Feline

Soft fluffy patterned fur
emanating  rhythmic purrs
long stretched out limbs
small pads touching my skin
feeling comfortable next to me
as we relax here on the sofa
subtle twitches from her dreams
chasing mice around the house
ears turn at far off sounds
an eye opens to look around
then slowly closes
once all is quiet again
back to slumbering in peace
curled up together
my cat and I!

Just love curling up on the sofa with my cat!

Queenie

A regal cat in all her glory
fur coat so smooth and bright
reclining resplendently there
Queenie`s a wondrous sight

such a majestic beauty
watching all she surveys
wait until she demands attention
then she`ll want loads of praise

posing in her favourite spot
her head held high with pride
ruling over all this household
her wishes can not be denied !

Witches Coven

The witches are out tonight
swooping, soaring through the clouds
can`t you hear them cackling?
as they merge into small crowds

with sharp noses and beady eyes
scraggly hair and grotesque warts
they land their brooms in clearings
this their preferred mode of transport

each coven is complete now
a large cauldron is made ready
all thirteen witches around
as they hold their wands steady

eye of newt and tongue of frog
a thread from a dragon`s vest
webs from black widow spiders
for this spell will be the best

the sky is all black and brooding
with a round moon shining bright
now the witches` spell`s complete
let them all enjoy this special Night!!

Frogs Eyes...

Two big eyes just visible
breaking the surface with ease
blinking in the bright sun shine
just floating, if you please!

a sudden noise and down they drop

back into the depths of the pond
a ripple on the water
shows us how they did respond

as the water settles again

you`re left there to ponder on
for where there were two eyes,  now
a croak, a splash and they`re gone

I was challenged to write a poem with the title  "Oceans of Time" by my daughter
Now I am please to announce that this poem is to be published in an anthology "Along the Shore"  by Lost Towers Publications, hopefully later this month.

Lissie

Oceans of time

Oceans eternal
ebbing and flowing
caressing the land
just like two lovers

through time immortal
these partners exist
entwined together
so passionately kissed

some times it`s fearsome
crashing against rocks
or a tender splash
where sea meets the land

through the sands of time
to the depths so deep
oceans eternal
to the ends of the world

I was challenged, by Carolyn, to write this, just from the title....lol!

Eerie Moon...

eerily shines the moon
as it follows along
the quiet country lanes
like a big bright gong...!

Together here...

By the light of a thousand stars
life force flows through the night
over rocks and under the sky
shimmering in the moon light

although the angels took you away
leaving sadness within this space
but in the stars I see your spirit
feeling you close throughout our place

each crack and crevice lit
as the water cascades down
into the depths of a peaceful pool
cradling the symmetry with a crown

transported through memories
for silence of tranquility
rippling across the surface
filling me with humility

this is our special secret
somewhere we can be together
treasuring all that we have
our love secured for ever!

Weekends...

That time between Fridays and Mondays, should be special, full of fun and memorable.
How ever in the working world, weekends are becoming just another working day and taken for granted.

I remember a time when you didn`t go to work on the weekend,  except for the clergy, as weddings were usually on Saturdays. and for kids they were game days, with sport on the radio and then watched on the television. Junior and senior sports events, such as football, rugby or swimming.  Kids were active and achieving so much through Tournaments.

For the serious people, there were fishing trips, motor sports and even cricket matches, to name just a few.

Sundays were family days,  shops weren`t open and churches were the centre of the village or district.  A full roast meal with the whole family sat together.  After the dishes were washed, all would settle down in front of the television and watch a film.

How times have changed !

Now Saturdays and Sundays are just normal working days and families don`t gather together like they use to.  Computers and game consoles are more popular than physical activities.  Even church attendances have fallen.

Everyone has a different take on weekends, some like the normality for working and maybe having a day off in the week when it`s quieter and others love to make their weekends as active as possible, with hobbies taking over, walking, racing, riding, diving and much more. There are the party goers, who seek out others to share their sense of excitement, with music, drinking and socialising.  Others travel to visit places, family or theatre and shows. Dressing up and dining out, all so sophisticated.

Weekends are important ..... in one way or another !

They can mean so many different things to many people and are therefore a big part of our lives.  How do you spend yours ?

Lissie

Feline Friends

Dirty foot prints across my work top
neatly stacked papers knocked to the ground
a whisker lies there on the pillow
there has to be a cat some where around

hear a jingling of a tiny bell
the soft meow from inside a box
or a padding of paws across the boards
purring as steady as the house clocks

crashing of a vase that`s been knocked over
to the howling under the moon at night
our feline friends are part of the family
snuggled up asleep, so every thing`s alright

I am a servant to two wonderful cats!!

No worries

Don`t stress about yesterday
for it wasn`t bothered
never stress about tomorrow
as it will still arrive on it`s own
and never stress about the present
it won`t change the fact it`s here

Emotions

Sat here feeling almost every emotion possible...the house is so quiet and peaceful, but there is none of that in my heart.  I feel wrapped in a spiky blanket that`s itchy and uncomfortable, while experiencing sadness, anger and anticipation.

As I am a single parent, with no partner to discuss, challenge and receive guidance from, I find it so hard to make what seems to be the right decision.....I chop and change the way I approach my problems, therefore sending out the wrong signals.

Companionship would be a great help for me in situations like this.  Coping with emotions, my children and siblings is like juggling with fire !

There are times when I just feel I want to walk away from these situations and run free amongst the countryside, and let nature wrap around me and take away my pain.

However, I know I have to face up to my demons....!
