Ancient Twisted Tree

such an ancient tree

it`s bark so gnarled

spiralling upwards

each crevice rotating

to outspread branches

continually changing

standing so proud

after many years

amidst these gardens

through every season

dressed in moss

or bathed in sunlight

branches like fingers

pointing up to the sky

welcoming the weather

through each and every year

creating many homes

for nature`s creatures

as with great age

assistance is now needed

with sturdy supports

for sagging branches

this beautiful tree stands

a testament to nature!

Precious Secrets.

treasures held in secret
defended to the bitter end
protected from our enemies
who can we trust if not a friend?

discoloured through the years
though ancient words all faded
tainted by it`s mysteries
secured by dagger bladed

deception, spells and treachery
never to see the light of day
for these precious secrets
are now safely locked away

as the clock strike 12, a new year starts

celebrations heard everywhere

fireworks light up the sky

auld land syne is sung

start new adventures

make memories

raise a glass

with friends

Snow before the Storm

Silence is broken

by the whisper of

soft sculptured snowflakes

as noise is muffled

under the slow tread

of feet across the ground

sky heavy with snow

hanging over the land

all quiet before the storm

with paw prints running

across the deep snow mounds

found under the hanging boughs

a hush has descended

over all this landscape

waiting for the storm to arrive

so as the sun sets

and the moon shines down

across this silent countryside !

December brings forth winter tide

snowflakes flutter from heaven

creating white  blanket

of soft powered snow

bounds over terrains

through icy mud

Playful Angels

Oops my halo`s slipped again

I mustn`t take it off to play

maybe I shouldn`t remove it at all

angel`s duty is to stay and pray

I have a desire to skip and jump

hate being the silent helper too

want to sing and make daisy chains

why can`t I dance and play with you

the archangels calmly tell me off

they say I should be more demure

respectful of the old traditions

but making children smile is best for sure

I`m sorry if I get it all wrong

maybe one day I`ll be good and learn

but until then, we`ll  have some fun

please give me a chance, don`t be too stern!!

the door to a new one opens
creaking softly as we step through

   Christmas Eve

                                                                  

    On Christmas Eve, 

   the reindeer fly

    pulling Santa 

    across the sky

    sprinkled star dust

      to guide the sleigh

     and help them all 

    along their way

In this day and age, Christmas seems to be about presents, food, decorations and cards, but that was not how it use to be.  Maybe it`s time to remember the true meaning of Christmas and the birth of baby Jesus.

True Christmas

On Christmas eve it was so cold

like it was all those years before

as a couple tried to find a room

but they're only offered a stable floor

amongst the hay and ox and ass

the saviour of the world was born

laid in a manger warm and safe

watched over by Mary, `til the morn

there were shepherds in the field

all guarding their flock by night

when a heavenly host appeared

telling them of the child, with delight

leaving to visit the baby

travelling to the little stable

bearing gifts for baby Jesus

showing him love, as they were able

Mary takes this all to her heart

God has told her, he was precious

so as we gather altogether

let`s remember that first Christmas

Swans are graceful and very beautiful birds,  pairing up for life  elegantly swimming across the lakes.

Sleeping Swan

On a crisp sunny morning

just as the mist clears away

a sleepy swan slowly wakes

marking the start of her day

enveloped in her white wings

protected from the cold night

an orange beak peeping through

this bird is an awesome sight

a black beady eye watches

so aware of life around

waiting for the time to swim

as she moves without a sound

raising her head to the sky

stretching her wings out wide

slipping into the waters

no more need to sleep and hide

Solitude

Through the silence I walk

the gentle crunch under my feet

muffled noises all around

as I spy a dim lit seat

for under the park light

a snow covered bench is seen

though cold, it`s quiet inviting

a white throne for a queen

all around is darkness

as this seat sits in a pool of light

crisp foot prints near by

creating a wondrous sight

this scene so fit for royalty

invites me to come and rest a while

though cold, it`s peaceful here

distant light gives it an eerie smile

leaving my foot prints behind me

I accept the sweet invitation

solitude and quietness

love this wondrous temptation

Winter time, though bleak and cold, is still a wonderful season, creating awesome scenery for all to enjoy.

Wintry Forest

silently snow falls from the heavens

gently blanketing the landscape below

softly muffling the sounds of nature

countryside wrapped up in the snow

the more it falls the whiter the land

each snowflake, unique in its own way

feathered effects falling through the air

light to the touch, yet wanting to play

high up in the fir tree canopy

through the light snow descending there

each little pine needle is covered

wrapped up snugly from the cold air.

all throughout the ancient forest

snow muffles sounds everywhere 

but under the great boughs all is bare

silence of nature no sound in the air

as the landscape sleeps under the snow

all protected from the wind and cold

winter amongst these wonderful trees

is such an awesome sight to behold

My Christmas Wish...

I have a special wish this year

and it simply involves just you

to have a cuddle in your arms

would be my dream come true

to sit and chat in our quiet space

and share a cup of coffee and treat

to laugh and joke and share a kiss

under mistletoe, would be sweet

I always meet you in my dreams

we stroll together hand in hand

reminiscing all we`ve shared

until I cross back to the living land

in my heart I`ll hold on to my wish

we`ll share a glass and raise a cheer

and celebrate the festive season

I hope my wish comes true next year

 Santa`s Reindeer

Oh to be a flying reindeer
racing across Christmas skies
by helping dear old Santa Claus
deliver presents before sunrise

eight splendid sturdy beasts
all rigged up to Santa`s sleigh
with magnificent antlers
they are soon upon their way

all booted and suited in bright red
Santa takes the reins and off they fly
soaring high above the snowy land
almost invisible to the eye

visiting each and every home
while households are fast to sleep
leaving gifts for all the children
before little feet start to creep

when all the gifts have been delivered
Santa lets out a great big cheer 
for Christmas can now begin
for Santa and his wonderful reindeer!
