Cheeky Monkey

Swinging through the tree tops
picking fruit along the way
the jungle is his larder
something different everyday

hanging by his tail, he laughs
playing tricks on everyone
this cheeky little monkey
all he wants is to have some fun!

Steel Dinosaurs

Seen against a sunset back drop
standing tall above the harbour
dinosaurs from a bygone era
reflected in these rippling waters
cold hard steel dark against the sky
like robots working the cargoes
of the great tall wooden ships
that sailed the world's seven seas!
this industrial area
stands as a testimony to time
of health, wealth and prosperity
this place was once a mighty town

Life of Cats

Cats are independent
determined and bold
going where they want to
whether young and old

sleep in unusual places
boxes, laps, a window sill
tail up high as they pass by
demanding attention at will

dirty prints across the desk
leaving small gift of a mouse
chasing toys around the room
this is life for cats in our house

Dawn over Harray

Low sunrise over a wintry landscape
bringing light to the start of a new day
turning the dark sky into a vivid blue
as nature comes to life over Loch Harray

sunlight causing fog to slowly evaporate
yet the shore stays frosty, crisp and cold
clouds still swirling over on the far side
an unchanging scene from times of old

as the sun lifts higher, shadows change
creating patterns along the loch`s shoreline
watching the water`s surface shimmer
while the day enjoy the new sunshine

Loch Harray, seen in peaceful beauty
across these amazing panoramic views
with an ever changing light through the day
on this crisp wintry scene of different hues

Over the garden fence

Over the garden fence
cat and dog were having a  chat
putting the world to rights
food, toys, humans and all that!

leaning against the wall
cat enjoying the flowers
ears pricked and eyes alert
they carry on for hours

should their humans do more
and feed them better food
show them love in different ways
they had to be more shrewd

Cat was really happy
she has a lovely new bed
very soft and comfy
somewhere to lay her head

Dog very was excited
and madly wagging his tail
for he had a new ball and lead
then he was distracted by a snail

as the sun starts to go down
the two friends call it a day
back home to their own humans
there`s always tomorrow to play!

Stormy times ahead

Stormy times ahead so...
batten down the hatches
stock up the cupboards
then seal all the latches
cold winds blowing
snow is coming
hard rain lashing
stormy times ahead

block up the doorways
check all windows as well
logs ready for the fire
this`ll be the storm from hell
windows rattling
snow is pitching
rivers swirling
stormy times ahead

huddled near the fire place
winds howling all around
settled in for the duration
as the storm hits the ground
winds so freezing
snow now falling
fireside blazing
Stormy times are here !

Troubled times and stormy weather have the feeling they go together, ooops that sounds like the start of another poem !!,  Some times a storm clears more than tension in the atmosphere  this poem was one of those times.

Heart`s Storm

The rain is pounding on my window pane
beating out the sad tune in my head
for nothing can be said or done
can not change this feeling of dread

drops of rain running down my window
like the stream of tear I`m crying now
wondering what`s happening to me
to end this storm, please tell me how

darkened skies like the blackness I feel
gives a sensation of decaying
turning rotten from deep within me
I`m left here bewildered and praying

can this pain subside, start to heal?
will the rot cease to eat away my heart?
just like the storm, only time will tell
as it rumbles on, tearing the sky apart

Eurasian Lynx

These amazing agile creatures
camouflaged, they go un-noticed
short body, long legs and large feet
they remain totally focused

distinctive black tuft tip their ears
hunt using both hearing and sight
they quietly stalk, watch and pounce
sleeping by day, and active by night

widest ranging feline in the world
Europe`s  mysterious cats
jumping up two metres to cat a bird
these are fabulous acrobats

silent beauties in sheer motion
crafting the skills through twilight
on the lookout for their next kill
hunting the woods by moonlight

Walkies in the Rain

Racing around the park
paws splashing in puddles
sunshine and showers
with rainbows all ablaze
jumping in the lake
all through the afternoon
as you chase the ducks
in and out the waters
your fur dripping wet
all the fun and games
as the sun comes out
feeling warmth on your face
watching you shake
shake all the rain from your fur
twisting and turning
spraying rain drops
in different directions
baring your teeth n a grin
and your soak me too!
love our walkies in the rain

Love walking along a beach and let the imagination free....

Pebbles and Souls

Pebbles strewn across the beach
scattered around by the high tide
where they`re tossed about by oceans
travelling in waters far and wide

those pebbles are just like our souls
buffered by our swirling emotion
constantly exploring the world
this roller-coaster in motion

with the waters shaping the souls
as it shapes these many pebbles
some times they`re marooned in one place
others, crashing around like rebels

for every pebble is different
like the many souls set a drift
only time will tell when they settle
then love will give them that lift

so as you walk along the beach
and spy a pebble laying there
remember to handle carefully
a soul is drifting on a prayer!

I love being given challenges and a friend set a the task of writing about elephants and how they show emotions in three verses.  This is what I came up with

Tender Elephants

Majestic motherly mammals
meandering along the trail
linked together like a chain
from their long trunks to slender tail

a mother and her young baby
are protected by the whole herd
tender touches coax the young one
throaty sounds of happiness are heard

emotional and tender creatures
caring for each family member
they mourn openly for their loved ones
elephants will always remember

Life`s Road

We walked along life`s road awhile
shared all it`s twists and turns
helped each other in times of need
then sat and watched the sunset
before saying our goodbyes....!
