Start your day..

Start your day with a cup of coffee
spoon in a little of happiness
 a large bowl of harmony
pour some cheerful joy
to kick off your day
smile and enjoy
the sunshine
now let`s
go!

Loneliness wraps me in her silence
from the darkness she touches me
her coldness chills me to the bone
and sadness fills my heart completely

To see the first snowdrop of the year peeping through the snow I find is a
very special moment.

Snowdrops in the Snow

Tiny shoots peeping through snow
first signs of growth of year
crisp in the morning sunshine
wonderful to see them here

it feels like a new beginning
a fresh start towards the spring
nature waking up after winter
certainly makes the heart sing

little flashes a green and white
they raise their tiny heads each day
these flowers will be joined by others
as the snow slowly melts away

so when I see the first snowdrops
I know spring`s just round the corner
for winter will soon be behind us
as the year starts to get warmer

Large droplets of rain, leave a strong sense of smell  on the ground 🌧

The Smell of Rain

With dark ominous clouds about
the smell of rain is in the air
large droplets fall from the sky
as if the heavens had shed a tear

splats of water landing heavily
bring life to our awesome earth
helping to stimulate new life
thus encouraging so much rebirth

with large drops splashing on the ground
but not getting me really wet
I watch the black skies moving away
showing a rainbow I won`t forget

so as the rain recedes from view
a blue sky is revealed to me
the earth smells stronger of the rain
makes just another memory

Hidden Feline

little hidden tiger
amongst the crochet yarn
snoozing happily
so snug, cosy and warm

oblivious to movement
she slumbers on
lulled by gentle movement
tired after so much fun

sleep on my little sweet
snooze away deep inside
my crocheted blanket
the purrfect spot to hide

Watching!

From the depths below. I spy
with cynical eyes, I see all
come on, check me out if you dare
I will rise, but you may fall!

folk don`t notice me watching them
from small black circles  hidden
as the world passes me by
but to know me, it`s forbidden

looking stylish, even down here
I`m certainly a cheeky knave
come, check me out, I know you will
just take care and please behave

Little High Street

Travelling along a thin paved thoroughfare
this high street, once voted the best in Scotland!
between tightly packed homes and local shops
a hub of Kirkwall life, on Orkney Mainland

halfway along there`s a house that stands out
a pretty little garden leading to a crocked door
to the Highland Park decorated gable end wall,
this is the centre of the community, for sure!

with distinctive buildings lining both sides
a sycamore remains, where once there were three
limited parking and no pavements to use
well,  this high street is unique, we all agree!

Roof Top World

amongst slopping angles
this slate tiled landscape
mysterious skylights
and tall chimney pots

high stepped gable ends
are seen silhouetted
against snow tops hills
far off in the distance

this secret place up high
amid the tall roof tops
haven from the bustle
 lengthening shadows grow

Orkney

Orkney is an archipelago consisting of 70 islands
Rough rocky coasts highlighted by The Old Man of Hoy
Kirkwall`s St Magnus Cathedral was given to the people in 1486
North Ronaldsay' s ancient sheep are only fed on seaweed
Europe`s best preserved Neolithic settlement at Skara Brae
Yearn to be free and absorb these island`s history and beauty.

Frosty Start

Across an open white frosted landscape
with mountains forming a picturesque view
land covered in a crunchy thick blanket
cotton wool clouds and a chilled sky of blue

thick tufts of grass stand crisp and upright
a layer of white lines on wooden stake fences
as the snow carpets both land and loch
this winter topography touches the senses

held tight in the silent solitude of winter
icy frost covering everything in sight
from fields to snowy tipped mountains
a beautiful scene in hues of blue and white

Nature`s Music

To float with the music of life
entwined amongst the green vines
creeping over nature`s framework
dressing earth in fine designs

creating a grotto of cool shade
shielding tenders notes from the heat
soft sounds in the summer breeze
a sight that can never be beat

croaking frogs sit in lily-pads
while birds sing their songs everywhere
tall grasses sway under the bright sky
an animal's symphony sung with care

Mother Earth takes up the baton
hear the grasshoppers play staccato
from the owls hooting through the night
onto to the dawn`s awesome crescendo

a marvelous musical world
making such a wonderful sound
using every creature to take part
this orchestra of nature around.

 Mother Nature`s Anger

As this storm starts to take hold
the sea begins to rise with rage
as the skies get darker now
Mother Earth takes centre stage

with the howling of these winds
and crashing seas across the rails
white crested waves coursing havoc
leaving such disruptive trails

people blown as they go their way
with this wind no one can stand
gushing over the sea front
where the ocean meets the land

with waves as high as houses
pounding everything in sight
thunderous sounds to be heard
storm continues through the night

for all that we knew before
we will never know again
the sheer destructive nature
nothing from this storm will remain

waters flooding everywhere
hard to tell where the sea ends
whether this will subside soon
on Mother Nature that depends

New Year`s Resolution

A new year - a new start
making the best of it
standing tall before the world
this time not going to quit

holding my head up high
know I can make the grade
now to take a steady stride
so not going to be afraid!

don`t try,  I won`t get anywhere
have been through too much strife
a deep breath - here I go!
I am now ready for life

What more is there to say - bring it on!!!

January

As the old year finally closes
the door to a new one opens
creaking softly as we step through

moving forward with a smile
let the old one slip away
experience whats offered anew

with new opportunities
that can lead to success
the choices are up to you!

Happy New Year

as the clock strike 12, a new year starts
celebrations heard everywhere
fireworks light up the sky
auld land syne is sung
start new adventures
