Winter Fairy

a blanket of white covers the land
muffling each and every sound
for winter has come a calling
the Ice Fairy has been crowned

Mother Nature wraps her in white
creatures keep watch over her
winter has visited this garden
all is at peace so no need to stir!

Love creating shaped poems,  this one is all about a country cottage. Inspired by the keyring I knit and sell.

Hi
country cottage in the woods
thick thatched roof hanging low
over small windows that look out
on the garden full of bright colours
roses, wisteria to foxglove and phlox
small windows shelters by thatch
wide open letting all the scent in
winding  pathleading to the door
fairytale colours to compliment the
countryside found around the home. A small stone wall surrounds this cottage

Autumn to Winter

Autumns golden hues
red and orange and yellow
trees alight with bright colours
carpets of leaves covering the ground
being splashed around by
wellington booted children
clad in scarves, hat and mitts,
puffing clouds of steam
as they race around the park.

The trees are looking bare
now they`ve lost their summer coats
but here and there a holly tree
defiant in its green
squirrels red and grey alike
stocking up their larders
to see the winter through.

Darker now the evenings
and colder all around
people hurrying to get home
to warm their weary bones

The grass is crunchier underfoot
Jack frost has danced around
he leaves the park all muffled
impressions of black and white.
winter has crept in
through the gap in Autumns door
and caught us all unaware
until it shouts BOO!

Stones of Remembrance

Large smooth rounded stones , foundations to build a life
each stone balanced by faith as memories are held together

bright sunray, light up each stone, capturing precious moments
safely stored for evermore by adding new stones to the stack

defying gravity as the stack grows holding magical times at heart
continuing to add new thoughts, a life time of love kept together.

Home Coming!

winds howl and snow blankets all the land
dark sky`s lit by millions of stars
one lonely figure travels on
bent against the weather
family on his mind
returning home
for Christmas
festive
time
🎄

Cheshire Cat

Mysterious mythical cat
with his uniquely strange ways
you may even have noticed
I`m not all here myself, he says

quite an unusual character
sat high up in his own tree
can you stand on your head?
we`re all mad here, you see!

purple and pink stripped fur
 big grin that`s mischievous
a cheeky twinkle in his eyes
all normality, he`s oblivious

imagination is only a weapon
in the war against reality
this Cheshire Cat would say
while he grins up in his tree!

no time to fret in wonderland
just smile, or you`ll explode
for you see, we`re all mad here
just travel along your chosen road

♬🎜It`s World Nursery Rhyme Week  ⭐

As we`re celebrating nursery rhymes this week, i thought I would share my poem about nursery rhyme land, from jack and Jill to Goldilocks, there`s plenty of characters to meet.

Nursery Rhyme Land

There`s a hole in my bucket
I knew it wasn't there before
on my way with Jack up the hill
to fetch some water, t`was our chore!

Miss Muffet was going to join us
but she was scared off by the spider
will miss eating her curds and whey...
she`s gone to the pub for cider

so we met up with the three pigs
as the wolf had destroyed their homes
walked to market for a new bucket
then had tea with our friends the Gnomes

Humpty Dumpty was feeling ill
he had fallen into a swoon
so we sent Puss In Boots to see
and he gave him a dish and spoon

Goldilocks was feeling lonely
the bears were away in Hong Kong
so later that night we all met up
and had a great big sing a long!

Christmas Cheer!

It`s that time of year again
the excitement is growing
everyone has their secrets
there`s no sign of it slowing

shopping bags and packages
sticky tape, and wrapping paper...
cards written and presents done
all this fun is such a caper

decorations all in place
creating the atmosphere
raise your glass everybody
for Christmas time is here!

Christmas count down has started!

Depression

With such a feeling of total failure
where every mole hill`s a mountain
strewn with loose rocks, ready to hurt!
invisible, alone
trapped in cold darkness

so fearful of  everything all around me
with closed doors wearing padlocks
quicksand pulling me slowly underground
fearful, isolated
stuck in a frightening place

Pets are amazing creature and always there when we are low or just need a cuddle.  Little Jay, my sweet rescue cat, just knows when to appear and cheer me up.  I wrote this poem a couple of years ago and it still rings true today 🐾

Healing Cat

It always amazes me
how cats just know our moods
come and show us love
whenever we need it most
sad news or illness
they are always nearby
warming up our laps
nuzzling us and purring
when we really need it most
they have this sixth sense
that homes in on our needs
and there like a shot
healing us with their love
cats are amazing creatures
they are there when it really counts
I adore my little cat  💖

It`s getting colder now as winter is tapping on my door, I remember stories of Jack Frost from my childhood.

Jack Frost

Today my window is frosted up
a white blanket engulfs everything
spiky branches silhouette the moon
as a mist can be seen all around
the howling winds swirl about
temperatures have dipped below zero
glistening spider webs span the plants
tiny footprints across my path way
Jack Frost has been dancing here
he has left his mark for all to see.

  A Poppy for a Soldier

From the first world war to the latest one
millions of men, women and children have died
but millions more have been left to suffer
these are the ones, help has been denied

fields full of bright red poppies standing tall
where once men stood and fought the war
many have no rest place for kin to grieve
others have been left to suffer for sure

 each Remembrance Day is important
we should all wear our Poppies with pride
for many people lost their lives for us
as they fought together side by side

now it`s our turn to give something back
to help an injured soldier in times of  need
encourage,  support and care for each one
be there in their hour of pain, guaranteed

every red poppy is significant
each one represents a soldier that fell
this year wear your poppy with respect
as we honour our service personnel.

Bristol

Beautiful West Country city
River Avon flows through to the harbour
Iconic suspension bridge by Brunel
SS Great Britain moored where she was built
Take to the skies at the Balloon Fiesta
