Silence

A silent moment, where time has stopped
life's motion ceased, all is standing still
a ripple fades, inner peace is felts
sound is silenced  stillness of the soul
from sky to ocean the world sleeps
all is hushed now for nothing will stir
no sound, no motion, no breathe is felt
stillness all around, death, a state of mind

Winter`s Moon

Shorter days
means darker nights
winter`s moon
among the star`s lights

crisp and round
a large beacon
travelling the skies
in this frosty season

wondrous orb
bright winter`s sphere
shine down on earth
until dawn arrives here!

Winter is an amazing season from frosty mornings to cosy evenings by the fire, not forgetting Christmas festivities, that leads us to the end of another year and new beginnings for the next year!

 Sparkling Winter

Winter, shorter days, longer nights
evenings spent by a roaring fire
sparkling lights, crackling logs
so full of intrigue and desire

silent snow flakes on the window
time to reflect and enjoy the sight
winter is a joyous time to share
creating memories to hold on tight

fairy lights and flickering candles
toasty warm feet, frothy hot chocolate
with snoozing pets, its time to relax
there's sweet memories to create

Feeling a lot more festive with my lovely Christmas Friendship Bears These are exclusive handmade, handknitted bears.   With their cheeky hats and smart outfits they look full of good cheer.
Which one is your favourite?

To walk through nature is to feel calmed, inspired, clear headed and even humbled. No matter what season it is, there is always lots to enjoy and be grateful.

Crispy Morning

The cold beauty of nature
see against a bright blue sky
branches bare of their leaves
cotton wool clouds drift by
mirrored reflections on water
bright sunlight wonders adorn
distant calls heard over the lake
silently seen this wintry morn

Tis the season to be jolly!  The festivities are here, music, lights, craft markets and of course Christmassy hot chocolate with all the trimming.  When there a quiet moment, nothing beats a hot coffee and cookie while curled up under a cosy blanket in front of a roaring log fire. 🎄🔥

             sweet aroma
   warm invite
         from the cold
   frozen winter
cold hands
fire roaring
         curled up snug
cuddling my cup
       of hot coffee
all topped with cream
with sprinkles, so tasty
nibbling  on  chocolate
in the warmth  of a fire
so shut out winter
wrapped up in a
cosy blanket
with a crumbly cookie is
most welcome!

Walking around the lake in the wintry season, still brings a smile. Sitting quietly, listening to the wildlife all around is amazing. Coots, ducks, scurrying squirrels to the bare branches in the breeze as they hang over the lake.  Reflections seen across the surface creating eerie images. Beauty is everywhere!

Bare branches hang down
over the water's edge
creating mirrored images
of thin bony fingers
touching the surface
in an eerie manner
leaves swirling around
their pointed contact
as the wind rattles each one
winter silently crept in
spreading across the land
frost crunching under foot
soon the water with be icy
the cold season takes over!

 Life`s Journey

Life is a journey to travel
mine has been a long road
I`ve meet many people along the way

some have walked with me for a while
but others have stayed much longer
enriching my journey each day

each twist and turn of the road
leads me on to new adventures
or maybe I`ll just sit awhile and stay

husband and children have joined me
building my life around them
anniversaries and the odd birthday

but as the end of my journey looms
family have started to branch off
it`s not up to me to ask them to stay

my pace has become slower now
and I look for a place to stop more often
for my journey will stop at the end of the day

I love the build up to Christmas, though it can get very hectic at times.  Trudging around the shops buying presents and wrapping them in recycled paper, choosing the right food for the big day  and of course, decorating the tree!
This poem tells this story..

Stresses of Christmas

It must be Christmas time again
the latest toys are on the shelves
trudging through the so many shops
Santa`s lucky, he has his elves

standing in lots of long queues
checking shopping lists as we go
calculating the discounts offered
store can put on a festive show

battling through the crowds again
loads of shopping bags to carry
and struggling with the car keys
why can`t I have my own fairy?

fought hard to put the tree up
untangled many miles of lights
wrapped presents sit under the tree
promising many joys and delights

a jumble of cards on the mantle
festive food and treats stored away
excitement buzzes through the house
not long now until Christmas Day !

Autumn to Winter

Autumns golden hues
red and orange and yellow
trees alight with bright colours
carpets of leaves covering the ground
being splashed around by
wellington booted children
clad in scarves, hat and mitts,
puffing clouds of steam
as they race around the park.

The trees are looking bare
now they`ve lost their summer coats
but here and there a holly tree
defiant in its green
squirrels red and grey alike
stocking up their larders
to see the winter through.

Darker now the evenings
and colder all around
people hurrying to get home
to warm their weary bones

The grass is crunchier underfoot
Jack frost has danced around
he leaves the park all muffled
impressions of black and white.
winter has crept in
through the gap in Autumns door
and caught us all unaware
until it shouts BOO!

Floating Candles

soft shimmering lights
mirrored on the surface
as each one floats along
illuminating this place

half submerged in water
these small islands of flames
sail on by so slowly
like bright elegant dames

these gentle candles
illuminate their way
drifting through the waters
creating a floating bouquet

Christmas Baubles

Nesting on our Christmas tree
amongst all the shiny needles
caught up in the twinkling lights
brightly coloured baubles hang
reflecting the world upside down
on these smooth curved orbs
along with stars and ribbons
as they decorate our tree..!
with long strands of tinsels
shimmering through everything
and perched upon the top
an angel resides over all
white robes and golden wings
angelic guardian protector.

The Smell of Rain ( Petrichor)

dark clouds seen over head
large droplet tumble from the sky
splashing across the dry ground
time for umbrellas and a big sigh

the sound of each drop that falls
hitting all things down below
there`s a different smell in the air
can`t explain it, but you will know

a pleasant odour that accompanies
the first rain after a long hot spell
an earthy, rich scent offering joy
supporting life and serving us well

the land has waited for a long time
to feel the touch of refreshing rain
bringing relief after a hot summer
helping the water the land again

There are many sad items of news around and it got me thinking about all the things I am grateful for of news around, it got me thinking about all things in my world and I find that I am lucky, I have a great life.  This poems is a way to saying how blessed I really am!

This world we live in is a funny place
far to complicated for me, you know
want to see whats happening in my space ?
then come along, see it all, watch it flow

there are so many people in my world
they come and go throughout my life time
some for a day, others for much longer
they don`t always see me in my prime

can`t choose your family, just your friends
I am lucky with those who I have met
remembering all from my childhood
to the present day and beyond, I bet

its a wonderful, energetic life
times of sadness and lots of laughter
and all I love and need around me, so
I`m blessed with happiness hereafter.

Beasts of the Snow!

trudging slowly through this savage storm
a ghostly apparition in frozen snow
strangely shrouding his unique appearance
in temperatures of minus ten below

moving slowly while hunting for nourishment
features barely visible in churning winds
these big beasts are made to cope with this weather
with sturdy bodies and intelligent minds

these ancient beasts have lived in Yellowstone
walking in a line through this swirling storm
strong neck muscles holding their heads high
and thick fur keeping each creature warm

as this wintry storm roars on through the park
stealthily plodding on through heavy snow
these bison are just amazing animals
living in temperatures of minus ten below

A Wintry Scene

large snowflakes fall silently
over a landscape, turning white
creating a picturesque scene
in this surreal wilderness bright

tiny footprints seen in the snow
on a pathway hidden from view
heading along into the old forest
creating a little mystery or two

walking through the countryside
trees bare from all their greenery
yet the branches blanketed in snow
standing stark against the scenery

there's a deep sense of tranquillity
as Mother Nature has not forsaken
the earth`s wrapped snug and warm
hibernating when spring will awaken

Pause for a moment to remember all those who fought for us and sadly lost their lives for our freedom.  Never forget 🌺

  A Poppy for a Soldier

From the first world war to the latest one
millions of men, women and children have died
but millions more have been left to suffer
these are the ones, help has been denied

fields full of bright red poppies standing tall
where once men stood and fought the war
many have no rest place for kin to grieve
others have been left to suffer for sure

 each Remembrance Day is important
we should all wear our Poppies with pride
for many people lost their lives for us
as they fought together side by side

now it`s our turn to give something back
to help an injured soldier in times of  need
encourage,  support and care for each one
be there in their hour of pain, guaranteed

every red poppy is significant
each one represents a soldier that fell
this year wear your poppy with respect
as we honour our service personnel.

Bright eyed and waggy tailed at Christmas
for there`s excitement in the air
tasty smells from the kitchen
so much paper to chase
playful twinkly toys
laughing people
happiness
Christmas
fun!

Snow

Carpet of silence heard all around
garden covered in muffled sound
foot prints in the snowy ground
winter wonderland is found

snowflakes glisten in the light
a festive glow throughout the night
covered in a large duvet of white
creating such an awesome sight

Spread the Christmas Joy

The excitement of this festive season
enthuses my heart with joy and laughter
happy emotions stored in fond memories
letting them spread through my heart
oh, how delightful these images make me feel

my prayer for the beautiful time
would be for all to share in this joyfulness
be kind, be caring and above all, be happy
let a simple ripple of goodness expand
to cover the land with the spirit of Christmas

A goodly Christmas

how merry and sweet are it`s pleasures
a season of gladness
and great merriment
memories created as treasures.

Precious Moments

Sat here, just thinking
a quiet moment to ponder
about the little things in life
sun peeping through curtains
the laughter of my children
a collection of special photos
purrs emanating from close by
a frothy hot chocolate in hand
these maybe simple memories
but they`re so important to me

Anxiety

I thought I would share this poem I wrote about how my anxiety affects my life. It is not an easy diagnosis to live with, some days I can cope with it but others send me into a panic and all I want to do is hide. Anxiety appears to be on the rise, yet remains hidden.  Many people have anxiety and it affects each person in different ways. We are all unique and cope in our own way.

After talking to other crafters about anxiety, it was suggested that I tried to write down my feelings and how my anxiety affects me.  This is exactly how I started writing poetry in the first place, after my husband Steve died from facial cancer 18 years ago.

I had to give it a go!

Anxiety

Did I lock the front door properly?
I turn round and check once again
it`s becoming my daily ritual
feeling my life`s a pantomime!

every part of my day`s effected
with this diagnosis I`ve been given
doing general household chores
feel I`m at sixes and sevens

driving is now sadly a no-no
unless I have a co-pilot with me
I fret about the other drivers
anxiety, sings at me like a symphony!

but saddest of all is my poetry
my pen unable to dance on paper
sometimes I`m scared it`s lost for good
and my poems will turn to vapour

this anxiety, is a waking nightmare
though I know that life must go on
after all that goes on around me
just want this anxiousness gone!
