World Autism Awareness Day

Thought I would share my experience of autism through two of my children.

Autism.

Autism is not something to be feared
it`s a state of mind that has no limits
persons parked diagonally in their parking space
they see the world in a wonderful way
that we can never truly understand
they're very loving and full of grace.

Unique people with so much to give
that society rejects through misconceptions
it takes a little sense to find some common ground
the simple side of life, we can all learn from
they`re individuals that are fun to be with
intelligent, inquisitive, they always astound.

Trusting and sometimes easily led
body language is hard for them to follow
they just want to be like all the rest
life seems to have served them an unfair lot
that we know they don`t deserve to have
yet as a friend,  they are truly blessed.

Inspirational in every way
their love for life should motivate us
and we must strive to work well together
don`t ever let this harsh world put them down
problems can be resolved through talking
humanity must accept one another.

Spontaneous, loving, fun to be with
they don`t hold grudges or hate anyone
accepting them with joy,  as they're so bright
eye contact appears to be hard for them
but they seem to get around that with our help
we are all special in our own right.

Misunderstood, they battle on in life
it`s not hard to be polite and caring
they have a right to a decent existence
treat them with the respect they deserve
they are not monsters to be afraid of
go say "Hello",  don`t keep your distance !

Springtime

great splashes of sweet scented flowers
wondrous joy of Mother Nature
buds bursting into blossom
hear the buzzing of bees
warming bright sunshine

Friendship Bears

These two Friendship Bears,  Cookie and Colbalt are larger than my usual bears as I used Aran yarn.  They're handknitted, soft and lovable, wanting to share hugs and snuggles 🧸🧸

Today is World Storytellkng Day!

The theme of World Storytelling Day 2025 is Deep Water. This theme can have many meanings: stories in which a character is in trouble, stories about magical waters, or stories connected to deep waters like the sea, a lake, or a river.

Tranquil Waters

Waters of tranquillity
sharing colours of peace
with each ebb and flow
undulating back and forth
lapping the rugged rocks
carved by wind and ocean
blue and purple hues
reflections of the sky

rich sounds sooth the soul
calming the spirit
easing away all the stress
as relaxation flows
right through the body
like gentle currents
sparkling waters
mirroring the sun

these wonderful waters blue
draw you in to their spell
calmly mesmerising
as they wash over the rocks
taking you with them
into their deep dark depths
where you can remain
peaceful and tranquil

water calms and cleanses the soul

Night-Time Buddies

Angels and Teddies sit on my chair
soft and cuddly in the moon light
watching me as I dream my dreams
keeping me safe throughout the night

kittens and puppies snooze on my bed
comfortably snug until the new day
feeling their breathing as they sleep
looking so sweet in their own little way

so as all sleep on contently at night
snuffle and snoring won`t wake any up
as they dream of new adventures
until morning when they share my cup!

 Silence

an emptiness of silence
felt deeply through my soul
fills me with emotions
yet I am still in control

a single tear appears
rolls slowly down my cheek
memories come floating back
but I am unable to speak

let silence wash over me
wrapping me in its arms
contemplation will help me
calm down my inner alarms

for silence isn`t empty
it holds many  chances
stillness, a moment in time
silence is full of answers

Spring

Spring only arrives
when the cherry trees blossom
turning our world pink
bringing great joy to our hearts
sensing laughter all around

I love writing poems about cheeky animals, superman or even Spiderman, they're fun to write and look great framed and put up on a child`s bedroom wall.

Grumpy Monkey

Can a monkey be grumpy?
yes, if another pulls his tail
he sure can have a sulk
or beat his chest and wail

oh, the humiliation from mum
as a little monkey is scorned
for cheekiness in the trees
he was definitely warned

losing his banana can do it
high jumps and a loud screech
he can really get annoyed
when his prize is out of reach

come on little grumpy monkey
there`s mischief to be found
cheer up and have some fun
for this forest is your playground!

 Joy of the Spring

As winter slowly changes into spring, new life starts to appear, from snowdrops to tadpoles and crocuses to pink blossom. Warmer weather, longer days,  it can certainly feels more like a new beginning.

I love springtime, finding inspiration from all around me.  Nature, colours, laughter, sunrises, sunsets and so much more!  The joy of planting flowers and vegetables, going for walks and new adventures all help with life`s positive outlook.

Let this joy of spring spur you on to try new things, create something new and inspire you to get out there and be excited about life!

For me, I love to go for walks around our local lake, or along the riverside, letting my  senses be immersed in nature.  The sounds, smells, colours help to calm, heal and restore the heart and soul of emotions.  Nature inspires me writing, creating images to help me paint pictures with words from the heart.

What inspires you?

See all around you and be inspired to enjoy it all.

Pink Snow

pink snow falling softly
hovering slowly in the air
silently drifting to the ground
covering all with out a care

with soft sweet scent about
filling the atmosphere
Mother natures is stirring
spring time must be here

bees buzzing amongst flowers
collecting nectar for their hive
as the air is filled with pollen
everything feels so alive

for spring, glorious spring
has arrived at last
pink snow followed by fruit
nature is full of contrast

Happy Birthday to my dear husband Steve,  how I miss hum more as the years pass by.
He was my rock, the centre of my world, my soulmate, best friend and a great father too.
Happy 65th Birthday Steve

 A Birthday Candle

This candle burns just for you
its flame brightens up my heart
for I feel the loneliness of loss
ever since we were torn apart

this candle is a symbol
showing our united love
that even through your death
there's a strength from up above

let your Birthday candle shine
lighting up our world forever
sending you a great big hug
we`ll remain united together

I took this photograph of two sleeping swan on the lake, they were in harmony with each other.  I was amazing to see their reflection in the rippled water, almost like ballet dancers.
Hope you enjoy Synchronised Sleeping 🦢🦢

 Synchronised Sleeping

in a shallow shady back water
hidden from many prying eyes
these elegant swans a sleeping
 such a delightful surprise

heads resting across their backs
synchronised sleeping, no intrusion
this pair, so full of commitment
mirrored in a rippled illusion

though the world moves on by
 nothing disturbs this loving pair
let them rest a little while longer
in this shady spot, silence fills the air

Writer`s Block

Everyone has their good days and bad days, it`s the way of life.
It can be the same with other crafters, some days you can be inspired to create new creations and others you just can`t face it at all.

Inspirations comes from many different directions, images, colours, words, events or even emotions. One day the artist can pick of their brush and paint a master piece, other days they can`t even look at the canvas.

Well it`s the same for writers.

One day my pen will be active and the ink flows freely, other days I am unable to write a thing. my mind is a blank, nothing is inspiring my pen to dance.

There are many reasons for this to happen to crafters, such as emotions, illness or the will to create has gone for a while.  Painting or writing can not be forced,  for then it will be false and does not flow from the heart within.

Sometimes it is best just to walk away, do something else for a change, take your mind off the problem. Recovering from writer`s block is not a set process though and can vary in the amount of time it takes for you to be inspired again.  Don`t let it get you down though, as this can make it worse.  Instead be patient and go with however you are feeling.

Most likely the problem has been triggered by an event that has effected you in away you didn`t realise. This could range from an argument, illness, disappointment or even just tiredness.  Try and rest and not panic about it, as this is perfectly normal and can happen to anyone in their life time.

Once this has rectified itself, don`t go into overdrive and write as if you have to catch up for lost time. Give yourself a bit of space to get back into your stride and slowly build up your writing again.

I am always grateful when I can write once more and thoroughly enjoy the ability to pick up my pen and feel it dance across a clean white sheet of paper.

Writer's Block

I tried to write a poem
but nothing  seemed to happen
no words or rhyming lines
not even a haiku pattern

pen in hand and paper ready
I'm poised to start again
yet no words will flow today
it really has become a pain

what is wrong with me, I ask
do I need to take a break
is it a case of writer's block
this is bad for goodness sake!

time for some calming nature
let the outside heal my woe
hopefully I'll be inspired
let's do this, give it a go!

Swans are graceful and very beautiful birds,  pairing up for life  elegantly swimming on the lakes.

Sleeping Swan

On a crisp sunny morning
just as the mist clears away
a sleepy swan slowly wakes
marking the start of her day

enveloped in her white wings
protected from the cold night
an orange beak peeping through
this bird is an awesome sight

a black beady eye watches
so aware of life around
waiting for the time to swim
as she moves without a sound

raising her head to the sky
stretching her wings out wide
slipping into the waters
no more need to sleep and hide
