Nature Plays Tricks

so the sun descends
creating wondrous colours
splashing across the sky
painting the horizon
through the light of the sun
all is silhouetted
causing different shapes
to flutter in the breeze
a long slender stem
it`s branches spread out wide
black against the setting sun
dwarfing the evening scene
as the sun disappears
its path leave such colours
from this tender angle
this stem is really grass

Coot

little black suited ninja of the lake
feisty character, dressed so smart
seeing off the noisy neighbours
even chasing an angry swan
warning honks heard all around
doesn`t stand for any nonsense
looking proud on impressive feet
this little master of all he surveys

Summer solstice

Witnessing sunrise over Stonehenge
watching the stones and sun aligne
sky ablaze with bright colours
festive feel with the morn
mystic solstice
celebrations

Eye of the Web

Spirals of shimmering silk threads
with central spokes that holds it tight
this web is hung from it`s branch anchors
caught in the early morning sunlight

a deadly trap to catch a spider`s meal
this all 'seeing eye' amongst the trees
nature`s amazing artwork is beautiful
an ingenious arachnid waits at its ease

Beauty of Nature

wander along quiet dappled path
under a canopy of leafy branches
wrapped in nature`s healing arms
smile, enjoy, this feels like heaven
scent of flowers fill the atmosphere
a rustle of trees on a gentle breeze
muffled sounds heard from afar
doesn`t mar the peaceful place
follow the path, see where it leads
let it calm, and inspire the mind

Challenged to write a poem through the eyes of Bubbles the Cat.  It`s raining at the back door, so she runs to the front door. What!  it`s raining there too!!

The Sky is Leaking!

Bubbles wants to go outside
 to check on her territory
please human, let me out!
Oh no,   it`s dripping on my nose
damn this leaking sky.
Oh well.  I`ll try the other door
Come on human, let me out
please. come on  come on
I really want to go out!
What!!, not again,
more leaks from the sky
I`m going to get very wet.
this is so unfair,
come on human, make it stop!
don`t shut the door again
Oh well, think I`ll find
somewhere to sleep this off.
a comfy spot on the snug blanket
I can sit and watch outside
while the other humans get wet!

Pulsating Beat

There`s anticipation in the air
drum, mics, guitars and bass
all that`s needed now, is the band
come on! let`s crank up the pace

as the lights begin to flash
to the roars from the crowd
thumping beats of music heard
feeling the pulse good and loud

screaming out the lyrics
head banging to the beat
for the band`s in their zone
playing in pulsating heat!

their performance is electric
music, video, smoke and light
living their dream in the moment
strutting their moves into the night

Rainy Market

Early on a Saturday morning
a very wet and cold June day
setting up the stall. is this all
worth doing, am I really okay?

people trudging by, all wet with
heads bent low against the rain
everyone tries to keep warm and dry
summer weather, can be such a pain

it`s certainly a quiet start to the day
as heavy rain continues to fall
hopes for some sunshine, very thin
so I`ll smile, greet and stand tall!

Awaken

A gentle touch of sunlight
crept across and kisses my cheek
so soft I barely felt it
a soothing caress so meek

with loving murmurs in my ear
I'm told it`s time to wake
stirring slowly from my slumber
want this moment as a keepsake

I greet the sun with a smile
as I welcome in the morn
gently opening my eyes
my room is filled with the dawn

Welcome to June!

Summer is here, let the good times roll.
This month is all about submitting the poems for the final push to publication.
It's exciting but also scary!

I've very much enjoyed being inspired by the beautiful photographs I have recieved. Bringing them to life through poetry.  Definitely - "painting pictures with words from the heart'

Just the few last things to do, like the forward and acknowledgement oh and reading it out loud before a mirror.

Yes I did say that!  It was something my mother taught me.  Leave the poems overnight, then stand in front of the mirror and read each one out loud from the heart,  any mistakes will quickly come to light.

I just hope the anthology is a success and people enjoy the photography and feel happy 😀

Here's to all of us following our dreams and reaching our goals.

Have an amazing June

Lissie

a strong yearning to be set free
