Christmas 2020

what a year this has been

Christmas is going to be strange

for Coronavirus is everywhere

celebrations will have to change

for this year will be a lot quieter

as only a few guests can be invited

presents will be fewer than last year

but at least we can stay united

staying at home means virtual chats

all those cancelled parties is hard

no fireworks and merry pub crawls

town centre is like a graveyard

will Santa and the festive elves

have to wash their hands on arrival

wearing their bright coloured masks

we must all protect our survival

no cuddles with the grandparents

or going round the neighbours for a chat

or visiting friends in other towns

just movies on TV while cuddling the cat!

it`s going to be a weird festive season

stuck in doors with just the family

but thats okay with me right now

we`ll stay safe trying to keep our sanity!

Halloween

spooky ghosts and ghouls are out tonight

witches soar over head on their brooms

shrieks and screams heard all around

great carved pumpkin faces

clanking  skeletons

and googly eyes

Halloween

Trick or

Treat!

Servant to two Cats

Servant to Two Cats

there`s two bowls and two beds
also two round mats for two cats
they maybe very demanding
and playful little acrobats

demanding their breakfast
first thing in the morning
whining to be let in or out
never one to heed a warning!

they sleep in some weird places
beds, recycling box or drawers
for these are demanding felines
little meows and I`m opening doors

now please don`t get me wrong
they`re both part of the family
evening, curled up on my lap
purring, dreaming so happily!

Faded Love!

I loved you once

but baby

you hurt me so bad

we traveled along the windy road

together, hand in hand

loving the good times

supporting each other when bad!

where did it all go wrong?

uneven paths

smooth motorways

we walk each road side by side

then at a folk

we chose out route

and parted company

Walk on!

Funny old life

hop to it

skip to it

jump up and down

fire it up

and let it fly

smile - don`t frown

if you`re feeling really blue  then stand on your head

don't  let the world control you instead

go rock!

My turn !

Act your age, they say
why should I?  No way!!

I just wanna be me
live my life, be free

I have done all that
now I`ve hung up me hat

kids have now moved on
so it`s time for fun

I was there when needed
and my advice was heeded

they have all done so well
it's made my heart swell

well now it`s my time

so I`ll end this rhyme !

Lest We Forget.

We`re all here to join the cause
and wear our poppies with pride
respecting all the forces
honoured to stand by their side

remembering all the fallen
from the battles that have been
through the war torn countries
these brave people have seen

we should be very honoured
respect those that have heard the call
be grateful they took the risk
and freed us one and all!!

for all the men and women
who fought for us and sadly fell
we honour them and give thanks
to every armed forces personnel

We will remember them

Suicide

To end one`s life may seem the answer to some people`s  problems and yes,  I suppose it takes them away from their problems,  however it creates many more problems for those who are left behind.  Fearful thoughts would enter some people`s heads seemingly giving them a way out of their troubles by sadly `to end it all!`

For their loved ones left behind, it was a terrible time, filled with sadness, and great loss. They were left to deal with the `fallout!`

Nowadays there are organisations to help people when that are at rock bottom.  Talking to people, writing down their feelings,  help them to express their inner emotions.

Remember all of us are special, people do love you and everyone is worth saving!

So always believe in yourself and don`t be afraid to ask for help.

Suicide

Once I were young and strong
full of hope and high spirit
then, through no fault of my own
my life took a plummet

feeling lost and very much alone
I couldn't see any way out
no family or friends to turn to
filling my heart with pain and doubt

having made my own decision
there's nothing more for my to do
but be steady and complete the deed
for I`m ready to see this through

farewell to all who knew me once
it's time to lay down for eternal sleep
no more pain, sorrow or loneliness
as I slip in to death's pool so deep!

Hello Autumn

Autumn arrives in a blaze of colours
nights get colder and days get shorter
crispiness felt under foot in the morning
welcomes in the year`s fourth quarter

trees put on their multi colours coats
bright red, orange and yellow attire
dancing merrily in the afternoon breeze
swirling, twirling higher and higher

walking through this golden landscape
in autumn colour`s cocoon of silence
a feeling of warm flows over the soul
even after summer season`s absence

to be amongst these gorgeous colours
run through leaves in boots for no reason
laugh, smile and enjoy every moment
come, say "hello" to this colourful season

Hello Autumn!

October rumblings
autumn`s now on its way
the warmth has left the sun
cold blue skies here to stay

weather`s unpredictable

but that's how I like it
maybe we`ll have snow soon
it strengthens the spirit!

bright colours on the trees

they`re changing their attire
orange, reds and yellows
summer can now retire

it`s like another world

low lying misty mornings
everything is shrouded
sending winter warnings

October`s a great month

marks a change in the year
for earth start to sleep
as winter will be here..

Our Wildlife

Mother Nature is trying to survive
our pollution, persecution, destruction
through all that we`ve thrown at her
whether accidental or with indention

need to stop destroying wild habitats
and live together in harmony
respect all animals of our world
protect creatures, plants and sea

leave the ancient woodland alone
all unnecessary cruelty must cease
for we all need one another, so
give nature a change to live in peace

New way of Life!

Our lives have changed since March
being furloughed and home schooling
kitchen tables becoming our offices
finding plenty of time for fooling

joining queues to do our shopping
staying at least two meters apart
purchasing only what we needed
always being careful and smart

our poor loving pets are confused
they don`t get a moment of peace
snoozing spots have been taken over
noisy music and games never cease!

cases are beginning to lesson
so government have eased restrictions
with schools opening after far too ling
pupils returning to their educations

we`ve some new slogans "Hands Face Space"
"rule of six" and  " eat out to help out"
causing quite a spin with all these changes
and leaving us all in great doubt

we can meet up with family members
and have a meal or drink at the pub
as long as number are under six
we can start up our own little club

virtual conversations with friends
writing emails, talking on mobile
chatting from two meters away
we`re becoming very versatile

our lives have become very different
compulsory masks in grouped places
shops, buses, church and much more
weird how life has changed our spaces!

Fearing the invisible!

These are frightening times

this invisible enemy

taking pop shots at will

where will it strike next?

masks everywhere around me

cleaning stations in all shops

terrifying statistics

and don`t forget the rule of six

so we all need to knuckle down

stay alert and follow all the rule

then hopefully we`ll all get through this

and get back to a normal life!

I adore elephants, they are amazing animals, caring for each member of their family through the generations.  Majestic creatures that we can learn from.

Through these troubling times, our zoos are struggling and I fear we will lose many species.

I wrote this poem a while ago 🐘

Majestic Matriarch

These awesome mammals
pachyderms that walk the land
dominating the horizon
looking so majestic and grand

Plodding through the sparse scrub
she`s watching every thing around
able to keep the herd in check
with just one single low sound

Her presence is so powerful
yet she`s such a loving creature
need to protect these elephants
they are a national treasure

With two curled ivory tusks
and her long slender trunk swaying
this wonderful old matriarch
her sparkling eyes she`s displaying

So through this awesome landscape
watching these animals walk by
lets remember they are dwindling
we need to keep the numbers high

Standing here watching the Savannah
knowing all life here has it`s worth
I love to see the creatures roam
admiring all of Mother Earth

Stormy times ahead

Stormy times ahead so...
batten down the hatches
stock up the cupboards
then seal all the latches
cold winds blowing
snow is coming
hard rain lashing
stormy times ahead

block up the doorways
check all windows as well
logs ready for the fire
this`ll be the storm from hell
windows rattling
snow is pitching
rivers swirling
stormy times ahead

huddled near the fire place
winds howling all around
settled in for the duration
as the storm hits the ground
winds so freezing
snow now falling
fireside blazing
Stormy times are here !
