Autumn.

September rumblings
autumn`s now on its way
the warmth has left the sun
cold blue skies here to stay

weather`s unpredictable
but that's how I like it
maybe we`ll have snow soon
it strengthens the spirit!

bright colours on the trees
they`re changing their attire
orange, reds and yellows
summer can now retire

it`s like another world
low lying misty mornings
everything is shrouded
sending winter warnings

crunchiness under foot
and a bite in the air
wrap up now and stay warm
it`s time to take good care

September`s a great month
marks a change in the year
as earth start to sleep
for winter will be here ....

Pheasant Shoot

Chasing country pursuits
a brace of pheasants needed, my lad
shotgun and cartridges at the ready
there's plenty for all to be had

quarry is spied by the beaters
the thrill of the hunt is now on
this pheasant has a different idea
can't fire when its sat on your gun

damned if you're going to be beaten
by this roguish feathered fiend
this cheeky little blighter here
I'll get him good in the end !!

This is a little different from my usual subjects, but I love Thelwell books and the way he tackled many topics.

Little Lacy Leaf

The ground is covered with debris
after the leaves have fallen down
for late autumn has descended
each mighty tree have lost their crown

Foliage found thickly on the around
as the seasons, they can not stay
slowly losing their bright colours
constantly changing every day

Decaying, disintegrating
taking on a new appearance
rotting, composting back to soil
before winter does the clearance

Small patches of lace can be seen
among all the leaves on the ground
so beautiful and delicate
a little treasure that's been found.

Betrayal 

In the cold light of the moon I stand here
balanced right on the edge of an abyss
to deep for me to see the bottom line
feel so betrayed by your tainted kiss

just want this pain to stop crushing my heart
feel so unwanted, unloved and very used
thought we were special and it would last
you have left me hurt and confused

can`t believe that what we had, has now gone
I see this world through this dark veil of tears
wondering now how I will carry on with my life
all this happiness I had, now dissappears

the flowers, ring and other gifts you gave
were not worth all the love I felt for you
your false affections and smiles meant nothing
it was evil of you to be so untrue

in the cold light of reality I stand here
looking over the edge of this abyss
shaking with anger for you are a beast
can`t believe that I was betrayed with a kiss

around my garden will roam

while nibbling grass and leaves
searching for a loving home

You left me wonderful memories
filling my heart with pride
and though you`re with the angels
you still walk by my side

spending our time together

making memories to share

shopping, laughing, having fun
