Rudolph

Sweet little Rudolph
with his nose so red
lighting Santa`s way
while we`re all in bed

under a bright moon
pulling Santa sleigh
bringing so much joy
on this Christmas day

Through the flares and bangs
my cats snooze in safety
hidden in their boxes
snug, warm and toasty

every now and again
they will take a little peep
to check that all is well
before falling back to sleep.

The Little Rocket

Snug in a box
stored under the stairs
waiting for the moment
I can join all the flares

when the day arrives
we`re brought into the light
to be opened and checked
all ready for the night

the bonfire is burning
such a crackling sound
the sparklers are lit
as people gather around

now that the box is open
feel a little unsteady
for we`re set up in place
as the show is now ready

lots of bangs and colours
as the sky is lit up so bright
one by one we are send up
fireworks on Bonfire night.

It`s that time of year again, when fireworks are ignited and the sky is full of bright flashes of light.
Great bangs and whizzing flares along with laughter can be heard.

I find myself with a dilemma ....

On the one hand I have a person who I get on with very well and enjoy their company.
On the other hand, my kids ( especially one of my sons ) hates this person.
My question is...do I put my family first, or go with what I would like ?

None of them liked an old friend of my from America, but I kept that person close to me.
My kids were brought up well enough to be sad when that person died, but also relieved that it had come to an end.

I am torn between these two solutions, I so wish that I didn`t have to make a choice.
I have always believed that family came first. However, at my age and now that the kids are much older,  should I not be able to have more freedom ?

I am genially unsure what to do or how to proceed.  I am stumped, frightened of making someone unhappy. I fear that it will me who loses out.
I so wish I had someone to talk to, someone who wasn`t involved or part of the family.

This year has been such a terrible year so far...as I making it worse for myself?
I seem to make the wrong decisions and even put my foot in my own mouth. I want to please everyone, but sadly that is not plausible. I can`t please everyone !

What should I do?  where do I go from here ?
I need a miracle and I need it now.

It`s going to be make or break for me, my friend and my family !

Autumn to Winter

Autumns golden hues
red and orange and yellow
trees alight with bright colours
carpets of leaves covering the ground
being splashed around by
wellington booted children
clad in scarves, hat and mitts,
puffing clouds of steam
as they race around the park.

the trees are looking bare
now they`ve lost their summer coats
but here and there a holly tree
defiant in its green
squirrels red and grey alike
stocking up their larders
to see the winter through.

darker now the evenings
and colder all around
people hurrying to get home
to warm their weary bones

the grass is crunchier underfoot
Jack frost has danced around
he leaves the park all muffled
impressions of black and white.
Winter has crept in
through the gap in Autumns door
and caught us all unaware
until it shouts...BOO !!!!!!

Family Strengths.

I`ve always believed
that famillies work together
when the chips are down
the bonds are tight
I know I`m right
I`m sure I am
but I`ve been proved wrong
they`re not always so strong

It is such a shame
when communication falls down
when it`s needed most
people get hurt
their post they desert
I know I`m right
but I`ve been proved wrong
they must carry on strong

When all`s said and done
famillies should stick together
tightening the bonds
look`em in the eye
with your head held high
I`m sure that`s good
please don`t prove me wrong
as we must remain strong.

My memories have all been boarded up
and my childhood totally overgrown
the past is filled with dereliction
a haven that I've always known

ghosts roam through all the rooms
dampness spreads along the wall
but I remember infectious laughter
as we played hide and seek or football

the long drive covered with weeds
leads up to porch that stood so grand
oh for the sadness of the family home
that's slowly been taken over by the land !
