Majestic Matriarch

These awesome mammals
pachyderms that walk the land
dominating the horizon
looking so majestic and grand

Plodding through the sparse scrub
she`s watching every thing around
able to keep the herd in check
with just one single low sound

Her presence is so powerful
yet she`s such a loving creature
need to protect these elephants
they are a national treasure

With two curled ivory tusks
and her long slender trunk swaying
this wonderful old matriarch
her sparkling eyes she`s displaying

So through this awesome landscape
watching these animals walk by
lets remember they are dwindling
we need to keep the numbers high

Standing here watching the Savannah
knowing all life here has it`s worth
I love to see the creatures roam
admiring all of Mother Earth

Tiger

each stripe is different
every coat, unique
awesome camouflage
at nature`s boutique

moving through jungle
in silent stealth mode
seeking his next meal
as his bright eyes glowed

hardly visible
to the naked eye
this tiger`s walking
confident and sly

this majestic king
so endangered there
it`s up to us to help
save him, we must care

oh tiger tiger
for this is your hour
a symbol of freedom
such grace and power

There is a need to save these wonderful creatures

These little verses about peoples personalities
using their names are great fun
and they make wonderful gifts.

Nap Time

Oh for a little nap time
to curl up without a care
this looks like a great place
so tired, I`ll sleep anywhere

camouflaged among the cacti
while offering me protection
these little spikes are comfy
hiding me from detection

so as I slumber peacefully
where I can dream a lot
please let me sleep contently
in my little napping spot

Growing up in Horton

Such an idyllic country childhood
growing up in the middle of nowhere
two farms, one shop and a big churchyard
spending hours playing without a care

racing each other on our Go-Karts
along hedgerows with loads of pickin`s
smells, bells and herds of brown cows
not forgetting all the clucking chickens

playing cricket on the Rectory lawn
trying hard not to break a window
off to the shop with our pocket money
amazing how far six pennies would go !

friends altogether in the summer sun
playing on the swings or hide and seek
daring each other to pinch some cakes
if you were caught, you`d be in for a week!

with imaginary games and daisy chains
riding on tractor trailers and much more
remembering such a carefree childhood
brings back wondrous memories galore

Sun speckled Madonna

Sun light filters through
creating patterns
so illuminating
like fine crafted lace

with bright blue eyes
watching every thing
protected from the heat
not taking any chances

shining lips so red
as the sun flickers by
they beam with a smile
while hiding under cover

skin so smooth and pale
hiding from this heat
dappled with white lace
my star splashed Madonna

Power cut …..

Writing can be a form of escapism enabling doors to be opened into other worlds.
The pen is the key that allows the writer to step over the threshold and experience new adventures,  painting pictures of these worlds by transporting the readers there.

However, when there`s a power cut... the writer shuts down !  The pen is shelved and there`s silence across the pages.  This means the doorway remains locked.

Poetry comes from the inner self and will flow freely in the light of day. Emotions, whether happy or sad empower the poet, allowing the words to dance across the pages.

Today the power was cut and my pen remained still. No words painted pictures for others to enjoy. Silence all around.  Emotions still run strong but are unable to be expressed !

What will happen in the light of a new day I`m not sure but if the power is back on …. my pen will be very active once more !

Let us wait and see what happens ……. !!

A New Day.

Each day is different
and that's how I like it
never knowing what will happen
mysteries are a great hit

Get up each day and wonder
what will be, will be, I know
let's get going and face the world
it's time to get up and go!

Meet and greet new people
with so many places to see
want to experience everything
then find out what I can be

So never be afraid to try
and expand your little world
wear a smile upon your face
and see new horizons unfurled
