Little Rocket                   

Snug in a box

stored under the stairs

waiting for the moment

I can join all the flares

when the day arrives

we`re brought into the light

to be opened and checked

all ready for the night

the bonfire is burning

such a crackling sound

the sparklers are lit

as people gather around

now that the box is open

feel a little unsteady

for we`re set up in place

as the show is now ready

lots of bangs and colours

as the sky is lit up so bright

one by one we are sent up

fireworks on Bonfire night.

Sleeping Swan

On this crisp sunny morning

just as the mist clears away

a sleepy swan slowly wakes

marking the start of her day

enveloped in her white wings

protected from the cold night

an orange beak peeping through

this bird is an awesome sight

a black beady eye watching

so aware of life around

waiting for the time to swim

as she moves without a sound

raising its head to the sky

stretching her wings out wide

slipping into the waters

no longer needs to sleep and hide

Winter`s Moon

Shorter days

means darker nights

winter`s moon 

among the star`s lights

crisp and round

a large beacon

travelling the skies

in this frosty season

wondrous orb

bright winter`s sphere

shine down on earth

until dawn arrives here!

Lake Kingdom

a noisy flight of white gulls

strut across the lake`s surface

top of the pecking order

they think it`s their purpose!

peace reins in the sunshine, until

a sudden noise, sets them to flight

squawking as they take to the air

white wings flapping, what a sight!

wings stretched out; heads held high

while screeching at everything

as all the snooty ducks swim by

thinking each one is the king

 this is their own Lake Kingdom

where they can all come and go

ducks, coots and very cheeky gulls

add to the increasing crescendo

Autumn to Winter

shorter days and longer nights
autumn has arrived here

darker skies, colder mornings

then winter will appear

with breath billowing in the air

on bright crisp frosty dawns

crunching frost underfoot

spiked white tufts across lawns

trees wear their coloured coats

with pride this time of year

a glorious sight in a cold day

brings joy and a merry cheer

Timothy, an army explosive sniffer dog, wears the helmet of a soldier who placed it on his head 

at the site of a car loaded with explosives that was detonated by an army anti-bomb squad in 

Pradera, southwestern Colombia in 2012.

Canine Soldier!

War Zones around the world

where man and dog work together

braving bombs and poisonous gas

plus snipers in all types of weather

they`re emotionally connected

and support their military squad

fighting against great tyranny

and enemies serving their god !

 comrades in arms against the enemy

braving shrapnel from a bomb blast

each dog remains with their handler

doing more than they have been asked

the trust that is found between them

a bond that will not be betrayed

companionship that`s the strongest

 at rest or defending the blockade

for man and dog united in a cause

standing proud together in armour

as they risk their lives to protect

serving our great country with honour

Lest We Forget

We`re all here to join the cause

and wear our poppies with pride

respecting all the forces

honoured to stand by their side

remembering all the fallen

from the battles that have been

through the war torn countries

these brave people have seen

we should be very honoured

respect those that have heard the call

be grateful they took the risk

and freed us one and all!!

for all the men and women

who fought for us and sadly fell

we honour them and give thanks

to every armed forces personnel

We will remember them
