Floating Moon

seen from across the waters
reflected upon its surface
this bright celestial orb
floating onward with purpose

dark mottled markings seen
through the silhouetted branches
stars shimmering in the night sky
all bidding for their chances

onward through the night it flows

lighting up its pathway
mirrored from above and below
travelling on until break of day

Publishing

I have been lucky enough to have some of my poetry published in five anthologies. Two have been charity anthologies which is simple fantastic. It`s such a wonderful feeling and I feel very honoured as it was my ambition.

Now I am working on a book of my own poems. Not an easy thing to do, as poetry can be hard to publish.  However I am determined to do this and won`t give up.

First of all, I went through all my poems and worked out which ones I thought would work in a poetry book.  Then I whittled these poems down to a manageable amount, around 35 poems.

Secondly, I read through these poems, edited them and got them all written out in the same size and style font so they looked smart.  This took me longer than I thought and I also found myself amending these poems slightly.   I then started to workout what order I would like these poems to appear in the book.

Thirdly, I wrote a profile about myself and how I came to take up poetry about 10 years ago.  This was harder than I imagined, but I was determined to get this part done well.

Fourthly, I laid out my poems, one to each page. I even chose a few photos to be scattered throughout the poems to add colour.  The hardest part was finding a photo of myself, that I liked and would be acceptable for the profile.

Fifthly, the cover needed to be designed. I am struggling to find a wrap around photo, one that I can use without copyright and that will be clear and also be meaningful to me.  I have been looking through all my photos, but as yet I`m still looking for one.

Once this is done, it`s only the title and other important information that needs to be added.  Then and only then will I be able to publish my first book of poems.   This book will be available as an Ebook and also in paper form too.

It`s all very exciting and yet frustrating too.  However I love a challenge and this one is certainly a challenge.

I will keep you all posted as t how I get on and when the book is finally completed and published.

Writer`s Block

Everyone has their good days and bad days, it is the way of life.
It`s the same with every crafter, some days you can be inspired to create new creations and others you just can face it at all.

Well it`s the same for writers.

Inspirations comes from many different directions, images, colours, words, events or even emotions. One day the artist can pick of their brush and paint a master piece, other days they can`t even look at the canvas.

For me it is the same, one day my pen will be active and the ink flows freely, other days I am unable to write a thing. my mind is a blank, nothing is inspiring my pen to dance.

There are many reasons for this to happen to craftsmen and women, emotions, illness or the will to create has gone for a while.  Painting or writing can not be forced, for then it will be false and does not flow from the heart within.

Sometimes it is best just to walk away, do something else for a change, take your mind off the problem. Recovering from writer`s block is not a set process though and can vary in the amount of time it takes for you to be inspired again.  Don`t let it get you down though, as this can make it worse.  Instead be patient and go with however you are feeling.

Most likely the problem has been triggered by an event that has effected you in away you didn`t realise. This could range from an argument, illness, disappointment or even just tiredness.  Try and rest and not panic about it, as this is perfectly normal and can happen to anyone in their life time.

Once this has rectified itself, don`t go into overdrive and write as if you have to catch up for lost time. Give yourself a bit of space to get back into your stride and slowly build up your writing again.

I am always grateful when I can write once more and thoroughly enjoy the ability to pick up my pen and feel it dance across a clean white sheet of paper.

Beauty of nature

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

a personal emotion everyone feels
of nature, wonder is so abundant
textures, scent and amazement always appeals

Mother Earth so cunning and versatile

each delicate detail so pleasing to the eye
from tall oak trees to a hidden rose bud
all living things look to the sun high in the sky

Each velvety petalled flower unfurling

tender little bud that explode into flower
revealing this rose in all its full glory
gentle to see, yet its thorns shows its power...

Black on Yellow

across the wooden floor
a streak of yellow light
stretching from the window
so warming and so bright

out of the summer sun
there`s shadows all around
hidden from the warm light
cool darkness can be found

black surrounds, yellow warmth
the contrast is so strong
temperature and colours
but sadly won't last long

laid in the center here
sunning his sleek black fur
stretched out in sheer bliss
contented just to purr

I did it again !

I opened my mouth
and shoved my foot in tight
making a mess of it all
can`t seem to do anything right !

it would appears
I say the wrong things
always at the wrong time
oh dear how this stings !

will you forgive me
for repentance is needed
what should I do
advise should be heeded !

this pain in my guts
steadily eating me away
just want it to stop
and start a brand new day !

Evening cruise

gently rocked by the rhythms of the ocean
with each wave lapping the boat`s side
the sky is a blaze with bright vibrant reds
as a cool evening breeze flows in with the tide.

listening to the slap of water against wood
as each little wave travels on its way
while the sun dips below the horizon
slowly reducing the tensions of the day

darkness slowly creeps over the lake
and a bright summer`s moon starts to rise
music is heard drifting across the water
creating a wondrous scene to the eye !

good company and a glass of cool wine
sparkling lights reflected all around
so as the night takes over and all is quiet
peace and tranquillity is found !
