Wintry Morning

Stepping out the door
with gloves and keys in hand
the car is covered in ice
encased in a layer of white
there`s scraping to be done!

it takes some time to clear
through billowing clouds of breath
and numb fingers fumbling
ice slowly scrapped away
the chore is now complete!

once sat in the driver`s seat
with blowers on full blast
as the car is all steamed up
soon be time to set off
and explore the wintry world!

Festive Season....

Christmas season is such a wondrous time of the year, a day spent with your family and friends. Sharing gifts, food and company, giving thanks for all that we have in life, should put broad smiles across our bright faces.

My children are all in their twenties now so Christmas has lost some of it`s sparkle. They still enjoy parties, food and family time, not forgetting the gifts too. The part that is no longer necessary, are the little traditions that I`ve always done, like leaving out a glass of milk (Santa shouldn`t drink and drive lol ) and a mince pie to refresh Santa after his visit.  Sitting down to watch the Christmas movies or cartoons with the whole family and  Turkey Sandwiches before bed.

It`s great that they still want to come over and share their Christmas with me and that makes me so happy.  The boys have even taken my down to the pub for a cider!

However, there are some traditions I will not change.  Little gifts on the end of their beds to wake to and not opening their presents that are under the Christmas Tree until after lunch and the dishes are washed done.  Gives me a day off !!

Do your family have their own little traditions that you keep going with?  I hope so, as it`s can really make a great Christmas.

No matter what age my kids are, Christmas is a special time for me and I will always run an open house for everyone who wants to pop in and say hello.

I hope you enjoy all the preparations for your Christmas Season and find time to come together with your family and friends.

Pain …..

Being a mother is so rewarding, watching your children grow into wonderfully confident adults. Seeing them develop and mature and go out into the big wide world.

To get to that point in time, there many difficult times to get through.  Baby blues, illnesses, accidents, stressful school events to heart breaks, debt and depression. We all go through at least one or two of these in a life time.

Emotions run high, as blood pressure does too !  It`s hard to cope with it all.  Even as they get older, it doesn`t get any better.  I was always told  the first 30 years were the worse!!

It breaks my heart to see one of my kids getting stressed over what I felt was a minor problem,  I felt helpless trying to reassure them. Motherhood can really be so treacherous.

Now don`t get me wrong, I love my family ….  but that doesn`t mean I get stressed with them. So to help me I turn to my poetry.  When I am emotional, I find I can write with more feeling and passion. ( I don`t want my kids to go through hell so I can write )

Is there a trigger that helps you to write?  What inspires you ?   Is it a feeling, picture, smell, word or something else?   I would love to know.

Poetry is a fabulous way to write down your triumphs, heart breaks, sadness, happiness and memories !

So never forget to write these all down, whether on a laptop or pen and paper ….. never stop writing !!

Wintry Scene

A deathly silence is felt
across an icy frost
that covers this land
muffling all of nature

grass like fur stands
white against the light
frozen in this moment
all crusted in frost

this wintry scene
in many hues of greys
covering this earth
causing the air to chill !

Jack Frost...

My window is covered in ice
a white blanket engulfs everything
spiky branches silhouette the moon
as a mist can be seen all around
the howling winds swirl about
temperatures have dipped below zero
glistening spider webs span the plants
tiny foot prints across my path way
Jack Frost has been dancing here
he has left his mark for all to see
Its getting colder now as winter is tapping on my door
I remember stories of Jack Frost when I was a kid.

Flowers of Remembrance

Bright flowers sparkle in the sunlight
each one unique in it`s own way
a remembrance of those poppy fields
something to inspire us everyday

yellows, purples, reds and greens
 a ladybird, cat and strawberries
vivid colours inspire us all

we should never forget their stories

five local soldiers lost their lives
as four families were ripped apart
their memories will stay with us
in crafted flower from the heart

Secret Woodland

along the old abandoned lane
 through an ancient woodland
 hazy sunshine lingers
unwilling to bend to man`s command

many hues of nature`s colours
fills the pathway in a timeless mist
sunlight flickers through leaves
landscape caressed and kissed

silence broken only by sweet notes
as feathers catch the light
song birds bring the wood to life
adding to this wondrous sight!

Life`s Journey.....

Life is but a stepping stone
along our journey together
though our paths have separated
we`ll be reunited forever

As the sun dips below the horizon
I`m wrapped in the darkness of night
signalling me to lay down my pen
and rest my weary body after a busy day
for now`s the time to allow my thought to flow

As the sun spreads slowly across my desk
I`m ready to pick up my pen
and let the ink flow freely across the page
slowly revealing wondrous pictures
through the words found deep within my soul

Lightning Strikes

Under the black sky of night
 deep rumblings of thunder
 heard in the distance
through torn clouds asunder

a pause in the darkness
 flashes of lightening is seen
racing across the entire sky
where silence had once been

white veins of electricity
sheer power brightens the sky
lighting up the landscape
after Thunder is heard to cry

the stage is set for the show
as Thunder sings their song
and Lightening illuminates
as we the audience look on !
