Cold frosty morning
underneath a bright blue sky
crisp crunch with each step
sun low on the horizon
beauty all around
many mysteries of nature

A little poem to celebrate my daughter`s Birthday 💜

My Daughter

You bring me joy to my heart
and fill my life with so much love
as I watch you bloom with confidence
for you have achieved such a lot
I have many wonderful memories
to hold safe within my heart.
for life hasn`t always been easy
yet you have fought through it all
today we celebrate you birthday
with family all around you
never stop believing
never stop wishing
always wear a smile
always be true
then life will be great
your whole life through.

This is a Tanka poem, which is an ancient form of Japanese poetry,

Spring

Spring only arrives
when the cheery trees blossom
turning our world pink
thus, bringing joy to our hearts
thankful to Mother Nature

bright laughter heard all around

I have a great love for the big cats and their way of life, their elegance and beauty. Long   may we still be able to see them.

Leopard

With sleek lean body crouched in the undergrowth
ears pricked and eyes so bright watching for its prey
blending into the surrounding habitat
its unsuspecting meal`s not too far way

watching and waiting for the right moment
its eyes darting back and forth cunningly
eyeing up the next victim, its next meal
then once chosen, it moves in so stunningly

crouched low to the ground, moving silently
following every movement through the darkness
its prey unaware of its presence close by
at the right time, it leaps out of the blackness

with its unique speed, the prey stands no chance
so adapted with its eyes, ears and coat
the leopard attacks with its claws outstretched
suffocating its prey with a bite to the throat

after only a short space of time for the kill
the wilderness in plunged back into silence
with its meal safely dispatched up a tree
the leopard helps to keep nature in balance

Pink Dawn

pink candy skies
first thing in the morn
warmth hanging in the air
colours bringing in the dawn

a light and cheery start
to brighten up the day
puts a spring in my step
to help me on my way

soft fluffy candyfloss
seems good enough to eat
light and tasty looking
starts the day with a treat

Depression and sadness effect people in so many different ways.

 The Cliff.

Standing on these mighty cliffs
looking out over the ocean
so searching for the answer
while watching the waters motion

Once you were here by me side
and I felt safe in your strong arms
for together we ruled our world
I was so smitten by your charms

Feel like a part of me is missing
not sure where to go from here
can`t see a future for us any more
I keep asking, why`d you disappear?

That big ocean looks so inviting
rippling to and fro so sweetly
could take away all of my sadness
maybe it would cleanse me completely

It would only take but one little step
and all this would be over for me
standing on the top of the cliff here
looking down upon that huge sea

Frosty start..

With gloves and keys in hand
the car is covered in ice
encased in a layer of white
there`s scraping to be done!
it takes some time to clear
with billowing clouds of breath
the chore is now complete
engine roaring, heater blowing
all strapped in for the ride
the car is steaming up!
it`s now time to set off
and explore the wintry world

It`s funny how a puddle reflects our distorted world.....

Reflections of my world

heavy streaks of water
makes my view a muddle
for my upside down world
is nestled in a puddle

rippling in the breeze
until a boot comes to near
by a marching passer-by
and then images disappear

all that I can see, are
reflections all around
distorted and yet clear
my world on the ground.

Your Heart

Listen to your heart
what do you hear
feel the joy within you
sweeping away the fear

dream big, don`t be afraid
step into the sunlight
be brave, be bold, be true
for your future is bright

Grandmother

Grandmothers are wonderful
cuddly, kind and gentle
someone to turn to
when troubled times are here
I love my grandmama
she's always so much fun
love sitting on her lap
while it's story time
exploring new places
or trying new treats
running around forests
and stamping through puddles
chasing away monsters
to making cornflake cakes
these are just a few
of my favourite things
to share with you
my dear grandmother.

Northern Lights

above a snow covered landscape
in darkened northern skies
ghostly ribbons of bright lights
dance over head before our eyes

swirling, spiraling and twisting
a colourful display of nature
painting the sky in festive colours
this experience to treasure

an eerie silence across the land
as this spectacle continues
starting pale, reaching a crescendo
seen from many different venues

once in a life time experience
and on many peoples bucket list
mystical nature at its best
an event that`s not to be missed

Redfield`s Hidden Treasure

Hidden in the depths of our local pub
there`s an Art Deco cinema full of  beauty
this secret is in danger of disappearing
to save it would certainly be our duty

in it`s heyday it was very popular
films entertained the whole community
to lose this would a devastating
we mustn`t miss this great opportunity

over 100 years of local history
picture house, cinema and bingo hall
before Wetherspoon bought the lot
come on everyone let`s save it all

leaflets, meetings and strategies
get this campaign up and running
spreading the word that we can win
know this cinema will be stunning!

a pocket of history within our midst
crying out to be saved and renovated
so many possibilities come to mind
its for everyone and must be celebrated

Touching a Soul

When you touch someone
with a loving spirit
they touch your soul
with their deep heart
for there is nothing better
on this earth
than a giving person
who knows your worth
as we live each day
may we make a difference
and touch a soul
each and every way
bringing smiles and laughter
to many a needy soul

Love, peace and happiness !

    Wintry Bite...

Seeing my own breathe in the air
on a bitterly cold winter morning
heavy crunch of snow under foot
as the sky dances with the dawning

all bundled up in hat and scarf
as I set off on my mission
      trudging through this windy day
      I head to my destination

      trees all bare after summer
thin naked twigs that make no sound
whistling winds pass by my ear
and foot prints that mark the ground

this coldness bites at my skin
so reaching home, a strong desire
then feeling the comfort of my home
can`t wait to warm up by the fire

 Releasing negative feelings.

Everybody has their good days and bad days,  smiles or stresses.  However these days don`t last for ever, well that`s what I tell myself. however my anxiety can really affect my outlook. These last few years have been hard for so many people and their mental health changed.          I try to find a positive quote or message to help me start each day and smile as often as I can but, deep down I`m not positive or content.

Thankfully, I find I can cope a little better with my poetry.  Writing down my emotions, not being afraid to say exactly how I feel, is a great relief.  It doesn`t matter if they make sense, rhyme as long as I feel a little bit calmer for releasing negative emotions that were causing my balance to be out of sync.

I thought I would share the poem I write about my anxiety,  if it helps someone to express their feelings, then it was worth sharing again.

Take care and feel free to pick up a pen and try a little poetry.

Lissie x

Anxiety

Did I lock the front door properly?
I turn round and check once again
it`s becoming my daily ritual
feeling my life`s a pantomime!

every part of my day`s effected
with this diagnosis I`ve been given
doing general household chores
feel I`m at sixes and sevens

driving is now sadly a no-no
unless I have a co-pilot with me
I fret about the other drivers
anxiety, sings at me like a symphony!

but saddest of all is my poetry
my pen unable to dance on paper
sometimes I`m scared it`s lost for good
and my poems will turn to vapour

this anxiety, is a waking nightmare
made worse by all that`s going on
Covid measures, missed family
just want this anxiousness gone!
