Birthdays are usually happy events but this one gets to me each year.  My angel mother was a special person to me, loved her wisdom, sense of humour and the way she laughed.

Mum, enjoy your special day with dad up in heaven.

Happy 93rd Birthday Mum ☕🍰💝

My Mum, my Angel

Just to say "I love you Mum"
would mean the world to me
but since the angels gave you wings
I`ll share my love through poetry

popping round to have a chat
and share with you  a cup of coffee
we`d sort out the world`s troubles
even though your quite a softie

I miss your love and wisdom
your kindness and caring manner
now your free from earthy stress
bet you're full of heavenly glamour

on this, your birthday mum,
I`m sending all my love your way
wish I could share a coffee with you
as we celebrate your special day!

Little Spark

With a small jolt of emotion
found deep within the soul
like a spark of an ignition
if left, will burn a hole

so act upon this little flame
and trust your heart to know
for this small emotion
can help your happiness grow

An angel gave you wings

To love you

To walk hand in hand
across warm golden sand
never again to be a part

to feel your touch so tender
as into your arms I surrender
and know you hold my heart

to always know you're there
a love for us to share
forever my sweetheart!

Weapons to Rainbows

The air feels heavy
pressure pushing down
skies dark and foreboding
a storm is coming to town

there's a silence felt
like a pause in time
shrouding the whole area
muffling the clock chime

as the storm rolls in
day light disappears
thunder rumbles through
playing on inner fears

streaks of electricity
descend from the heavens
loud clashes of thunder
 like gods mighty weapons

rain lashes down hard
beating against the windows
we'll ride out this fierce storm
until we spy the rainbows

Today is International Hedgehog Day

Hedgehog

Little bundle of prickles
curled up tight in a ball
can`t see his tiny feet
nor his bright eyes at all

this tight little bundle
with thousands of spines
still looks such a cutie
masterful of all designs

keeping warm and safe
hiding amongst the worms
through winter he hibernates
until the warm weather returns

Your Heart

Listen to your heart
what do you hear
feel the joy within you
sweeping away the fear

dream big, don`t be afraid
step into the sunlight
be brave, be bold, be true
for your future is bright

Chill of the Ice

Touched by this cold winter`s grip
there's a chill across the landscapes
as patches of ice cover the lake surface
creating swirls, patterns and shapes

birds tentatively waddle on the lake
wings flapping as they slide on by
then slip awkwardly into the water
squawking loudly, before they fly

Northern Lights

above a snow covered landscape
in darkened northern skies
ghostly ribbons of bright lights
dance over head before our eyes

swirling, spiraling and twisting
a colourful display of nature
painting the sky in festive colours
great experience to treasure

an eerie silence across the land
as this spectacle continues
starting pale, reaching a crescendo
seen from many different venues

once in a life time experience
and on many peoples bucket list
mystical nature at its best
an event that`s not to be missed

Wintry Moon

On a cold January evening
drifting slowly across the sky
as the day comes to an end
 this beautiful moon I spy

following along its orbit
this celestial sphere so bright
finds itself caught on a branch
and fills my garden with light

as the evening grows darker
this moon continues on it's way
now my garden's shrouded by night
as the land waits for another day

Family likeness is very strong
with their heads held high
proud to be related
strong straight necks
sharp eyes
pointed flashy tail
and the power house below
muscular leg with large paddles
allowing graceful movement above

Sharing Kindness

Poetry means a lot to me and over the years, being able to write has help me cope mentally and given me a lot of positivity and comfort.

I have always done the penny challenge, and along with the pennies, I record each positive event or feeling,  little triumphs.  I write them down, fold up each note and place in with the pennies.   At the end of the year, I count up my pennies which is great but I also read each note. It amazes me how many wonderful and positive things have happened throughout the year.  This helps me to start each new year on a positive note and more determined to make the most of what I have throughout the year.

Looking for positivity in our lives is so important, we need to see the good things, feel we are making a difference and that our lives are happy along with the people around us.  A little kindness goes a long way!

I heard of a little girl who couldn`t have her birthday party during one of the lockdowns. She wouldn`t be able to celebrate with her friends and extended family. So a neighbour put out a plea for people to send her some birthday cards.  I contacted them and offered to write her a poem. After learning a little about the birthday girl`s likes, I wrote a Birthday poem and along with a card, happily sent it to her.  It was lovely to know that I had shared a little kindness with someone affected by the lockdown.  It was lovely to see a photo of all her cards and in amongst them was the little poem I wrote.

Small gestures can make all the difference to people in times of need or comfort.  Little acts of kindness fill hearts with joy knowing they are thought of when it`s most needed.

In a few places, people have been leaving little bags with gifts tied to posts, fences or doors for people to find and use or pass on to someone who would benefit from one.  Acts like this are not yelled about from the rooftops but quietly left to be found and appreciated.  The givers doesn`t want thanks, just to know they made someone happy.

So let`s share some kindness, however small it is and make someone happy.

Virtual hugs  🤗

January brings..

New beginnings, new hopes
turn the page on the next chapter
opportunities and adventures
be positive and follow your heart

a time to try something new
maybe not a resolution but a goal
challenge the next twelve months
be happy, put your best foot forward

always look to the future
but remember where you`ve come from
be proud of what you have achieved
smile bright and hold your head up high

here`s to a wonderful 2026
there is so much for you to explore
so let`s march into great success
for this is going to be your best year yet

I remember visiting Bristol Zoo Porject with my daughter. It was wonderful to see all the many different animals and we especially enjoyed  seeing the Red Pandas out in their enclosure.  I was inspired to write some poetry and ended up writing these poems in three different styles.

Red Panda

Cute little fiery red creature
that looks like a miniature bear
who climbs up high in the trees
brushy tail for warmth in their lair

named well before todays Panda
have false thumbs to help climb trees
vegetarian carnivals - it`s weird
only eating bamboo, ants and bees

their red fur with white patches
helps to blend with lichen and moss
as they enjoy life high in the fir trees
showing the world who`s the boss

originally from temperate forests
most active late evenings and night
twittering calls as the play and hunt
Red Pandas are a beautiful sight!

(C) Lissies Poems 2022

Red Panda

Red furred mammal
Endangered but so loved
Demandingly territorial

Panda in name only
Active evenings and nights
Noted for being a solitary bear
Display great ability to climb
Always a beauty to behold!

(C) Lissies Poems 2022

Red Pandas

these creatures of majestic beauty
all dressed in thick red fiery fur
cute faces and bushy tails
climbing high in the trees
twittering calls made
cosy warm nests
marvelous

Red

Silence in the Snow

On a cold winter's evening
silence hangs in the air
footprints spied in the snow
are they by deer or a hare

winter has arrived in style
covering everything in sight
with a thick white blanket
a blue hue glowing by night

snow covers all the landscape
creating eerie shapes around
under a beautiful wolf moon
stillness felt, there's not a sound

Just for a bit of fun after being challenges by my daughter

Christmas Eve

Silence throughout the house
a stillness is felt everywhere
muffled sounds emit from outside
all is blanketed in white with care

gentle purrs heard from the sofa
little cat dreams of Christmas treats
and the children`s visions of gifts
snuggled under thick warm sheets

in the distance jingle bells are heard
there is a feeling someone will call
a sense  of great mystery and magic
travelling along through nightfall

then a clatter is heard from above
as our cheery visitor comes into land
many hooves stamping in the snow
this character holds a sack in his hand

then into the darkness of the building
tip-toeing through all of the rooms
checking everything that`s in sight
filling the sack with their heirlooms

a short time later, he back on the roof
telling all the reindeer it`s time to go
on to the next house, it`s a busy night
onward and upward through the snow

so if you heard noises from up above
stamping around in the dark night
don`t want uninvited characters here
check all your doors are locked up tight!
