I came across a well trodden path

meandering through autumn trees

tempting me to follow its course 

where would it take, I had to see

pass trees laden with their harvest

of nuts and berries for the wildlife

many birds and mammal to find

this secret little haven, so peaceful

catching sight of a squirrel tail

as it leaps from branch to branch

a tree stumps allows a spot to rest

while taking in the beauty of autumn

feeling calm,  at peace with nature

glad I followed this trodden path
