After the Rain

It`s been raining all afternoon
grey skies looming overhead
watering all the amazing plants
waking the flowers from their bed

after rain, there`s peace that`s felt
stillness and silence all around
along with a smell that`s so unique
raindrops seeping into the ground

see a drop of water settled on a leaf
creating an intricated feature
 reflecting details of each plant
sharing amazing beauty of nature

NaPoWriMo 2023

Day 12

prompt

challenged to write a pome that addresses itself  or some aspect of itself ( "Dear Poem" ) this might feel a bit `meta` or even cheesy, but it`s a great way to ask yourself question about your own writing.

Dear Poem

painting pictures with words from the heart
expressing inner emotions
releasing your strong passion
are you helping others
overcome sadness?
be supportive
positive
thank you

I was asked to write a shaped verse for a lovely little girl who loves her ginger cat very much.
he sleeps a lot and purrs all the time.  She knew exactly what she wanted and then added her own details of whiskers and collar.   I really enjoyed this experience.

Sleepy Cat

Me    ow
I can see you
little purring
pussy cat, curled
up on my lap
ears pricked
and tail swishing
ready to pounce at
 a moments notice
sleep on little one
 sweet dreams
                             purring
                                               softly
                                          on

Day 6

prompt

Take a look around Poetry International for a poem in a language you don`t know.  Read it through, think about the sounds and shapes of the words and the degree to which these remind you of words in your own language.    Write a new poem.

Swedish poem

Du Ska Tacka

Du ska tacka dina gudar
om de tvingar dig a gar
dar du inga fotspar
har att lita pa

du ska tacka dina gudar
om de gor all skam till din
do far soka tillflykt
lite langra in

det som hela varlden
reder sig ibland ratt val
fagelfri var mangen
vann sin egen sjal

Duke`s Attack

Duke attacked her in the garden
on a single dig at Gar
they were searching each footprint
her hat let her spy

Duke attacked her in the garden
in the coral at dawn
though soaked at first flight
light lingered on

did some fellow warden
refer to a sign so bland
frightened and mangled
advancing in eternal hope.

Wedding poetry

Poetry has a beautiful way of expressing the joy of wedding celebrations.

May you find your marriage filled
with lasting memories to treasure
faith and understanding along the way
love and happiness to deep to measure

as you stand before your family and friends
to start you life as man and wife together
wishing you the best on your new journey
may you share love, passion and joy for ever!

Marriage

on this your special day
as you exchange your vows
the future`s in your hands
as you step out together
make memories to hold
as you build a life together

Day 7

Prompt

Start by reading James Tate`s poem `The List of Famous Hats`  Now write a poem that plans on the idea of writing a list Tate`s poem is a list thats not a list, you could try to writ a non-list, a list of ingredients or entries in an index or a self portrait list of yourself or someone else. Or maybe a list of instructions.

Cheering up the Family

I`ve been sent down the supermarket for bread
but I lost my list and bought these instead!

Sourdough bread, as it sounded so good
a big chocolate cake, cus, I know I should
bright yellow flowers, to cheer mum up
and a new noisy toy for our little pup
sadly I  couldn`t buy any beer as they said no!
but Daddy I did give it a go!
some pick and mix and some Whoppers
skittles, Snickers  and colourful Gobstoppers
sorry I couldn`t manage to get baby`s nappy
Oh I did get some bread to keep mummy happy

Not sure mum was please with what I got from the store
but she`s never asks me to go shopping anymore!

Day 5

Prompt

begin by reading Charles Simic`s poem "The Melon" It would be easy to call the poem dark, but as they say, if your didn`t have darkness you wouldn`t know what light is or vice versa.  Challenge is to write a poem involving vice versa within the poem.

The Torch

Darkness wrapped around my world
eerie silence hiding everything in sight
odd sounds causing the heart to flutter
black shadows surround me in the night

yet seen through a shaft of bright light
there`s a small segment of the landscape
held in my hand, pinpointing my route
there`s hope I`ll maneuver towards  escape

torch light through darkness under the sky
nature`s glimpsed momentarily
then plunging the world back into blackness
for both only survive temporarily.

Spider in the monkey puzzle
hiding from the world's dangers
watching for a tasty morsel
he keeps away any strangers

secreted between the monkey`s leaves
careful to mind their rigid spikes
this spider sits and waits patiently
and when food walks by, it strikes
