Day 6  National Poetry Writing Month

#NaPoWriMo

Today`s prompt is to take a character from Hieronymous Bosch`s "The Garden of Earthly Delights"  Write it through the eyes of your chosen character, there are many different ones to choose from.

Albino Giraffe

this Garden of Eden, be it heaven or hell
visual sight twisted through the mind
stood here betwixed beauty and horror
towering among beasts of many kind

Regal in my stance I view these events
watching with marvel as Adam meets Eve
to see God`s glory being unfurled
yet visualising much sorrow to grieve

located in between these chasms of fate
a pool of meditation feed the beasts
my world doth change but for good?
will it be filled with God`s priests?

to watch beast devour beast with greed
will Adam and Eve face the same fate?
or will my white fur see me bleed?
with these evil delights in God`s Garden

Tesco

To all the wonderful staff
who work tirelessly every day
serving our local customers
in a caring professional way

greeting us as we arrive
keeping all the shelves stacked
in these stressful times you smile
and helping us to get all packed

through social distancing
with markings on the floor
access to a hand cleaning station
and, also doing a whole lot more

So, to your amazing staff
just want to let you all know
you are very much appreciated
Thank you  for all the work you do!!

Rainbow

A bright arc across the sky
colourful hugs from above
sending hope around the world
wrapping us all in healing love

Day 4 National Poetry Writing Month

#NaPoWriMo

Our prompt for the day (optional as always) takes its cue from our gently odd resources, and asks you to write a poem based on an image from a dream. We don’t always remember our dreams, but images or ideas from them often stick with us for a very long time. I definitely have some nightmares I haven’t been able to forget, but I’ve also witnessed very lovely things in dreams

Sanctuary....

through secluded woods I find
paradise a place to unwind
nestled in a small clearing
silent, yet so endearing
a little wooden chalet
perfect place to hide away
while soft snow is falling
a roaring fire is calling
to enter this  sanctuary
and taste peace momentary
while the wintry storm rages on
I`ll rest until the cold has gone

Rainbows

An arc of bright colours
stretching across the sky
with seven different stripes
I`m left wondering why

Red as rich as fresh blood
orange as bright as the sunset
yellow just like the hot sun
blue as the ocean I`ll never forget

Indigo a rich exotic colour
and last but not least, violet
that finishes the rainbow
forming a beautiful sight

Day 3
National Poetry Writing Month
#NaPoWriMo

Today’s prompt (optional, as always) asks you to make use of our resource for the day. First, make a list of ten words. You can generate this list however you’d like – pull a book  off the shelf and find ten words you like, name ten things you can see from where you’re sitting, etc. Now, for each word, use Rhymezone to identify two to four similar-sounding or rhyming words. For example, if my word is “salt,” my similar words might be “belt,” “silt,” “sailed,” and “sell-out.”

Once you’ve assembled your complete list, work on writing a poem using your new “word bank.” You don’t have to use every word, of course, but try to play as much with sound as possible, repeating  sounds and echoing back to others using your rhyming and similar words.

Here are so attempts at this prompt
What do you think?
Spring is in the air

sun is shining through the window
rays creeping to meet my feet by the seat
lighting up my tulips opening their lips
warming the cat napping on the doormat
go on risk it!  with a snippet of a biscuit
by the little rabbit dressed as an abbot
in the shadows hangs suits and leather boots
it`s time to enjoy the sun, have some fun
dreams of campervans, Batmans and make plans
so with my notepad and pen, I`ll write once again

Spring
Sleek squeak snoozes in the sun
Bubbles troubles frogs in the pond
sees the bees flying high across the sky
as the sun catches the corner of my eye

pink blossom buds begin bright floods
a sensual scent that`s heaven sent
singing the arrival of spring
delighting in everything!

Day 2 national Poetry Writing Month
#NaPoWriMo
Our prompt for the day takes a leaf from Schuyler’s book, as it were, and asks you to write a poem about a specific place —  a particular house or store or school or office. Try to incorporate concrete details, like street names, distances (“three and a half blocks from the post office”), the types of trees or flowers, the colour of the shirts on the people you remember there. Little details like this can really help the reader imagine not only the place, but its mood – and can take your poem to weird and wild places.

Happy writing!

Old Rectory

Standing in it`s mature garden
resides a beautiful old rectory
painted white with blue woodwork
holding on to so much history

house gates sit by the roundabout
tall metal posts painted bright blue
open every day to welcome everyone
all who need help to come through

long driveway takes you to the porch
through to a door lined hall way
with its wide sweeping staircase
still as elegant as in its heyday

disconnected servant`s bells
attached to the kitchen wall
as children sit at the kitchen table
eating their jam sandwich haul

dressed in matching blue jumpers
they swing their feet under chairs
until it`s time to go out to play
they can be just a cheeky pair

this is not just a working house
its a loving family home too
filled with wonderful memories
in this house with it`s gates so blue!

April 2020

National Poetry Writing Month Day 1

#NaPoWriMo

I’d like to challenge you to write a self-portrait poem in which you make a specific action a metaphor for your life – one that typically isn’t done all that often, or only in specific circumstances. For example, bowling, or shopping for socks, or shoveling snow, or teaching a child to tie its shoes.

Fridge Fear

Opening the fridge.. oh my
found a forest of packages
and partially empty bottles
goodness what a sight met my eye

stripping out it`s contents
finding items I`d forgotten
wow there`s a solitary onion
a disaster area for presents

sponge and cleaner in hand
it`s nose to the grind stone, I go
soon have it clean as a whistle
it will be worth it in the end!
