Secret Garden

Tantalising glimpses of a hidden world

secret paradise behind a closed door

such tranquillity and peace to be found

come, open the gate and enter, explore......

see everything as if for the first time

standing there slowly taking it all in

then wander around this beautiful place

for now your adventure here can begin

as you walk slowly down the gravel path

taking in the whole feel of the garden

the air is filled with the scent of roses

this wondrous place is a secret haven

strolling through the overhanging catkins

emerging, you discover a small pond

with its trickling waters passing through

this helps your inner nature to respond

so as you amble through this wonderful place

enjoy all that it has to offer you

but hold its secrets deep within your heart

please remember when you leave, close the gate too!

Together

When a loved one becomes very ill, it`s so hard to comprehend how life can go one.  However, with support, love and kindness, much can be achieved. Watching over them and being there with a smile or soft word can mean so much.  Sometime holding hands, or sitting quietly with them, will send them love and understanding.This was written about a loved one struggling with cancer, slowly losing the ability to exist.

Together.....

Each day....

I saw you struggle
deeply crushed
in that cancerous grip
growing weaker
day by day
your life force
draining from you

yet.....

from deep within
a light shone
though dim
it burnt defiantly
determined to exist
never giving up
the fight to live

So...

don't forget
I am always here
to help keep
that light alive
for whatever happens
we have each other
so remember

Mother

 As Mothering Sunday approaches, it brings mixed emotions for me, as I lost my mother 10 years ago and can`t bear to get too swept up in the excitement of this special day.

My mother was my world, we spoke regularly and met when we could, sharing a chat over coffee and a cake.   These memories are held in my heart forever, she was one special lady.

Now my children look to Mothering Sunday, a card and some flowers are the order of the day.  All i want out the day, is to know that we love each other, and that we have new precious memories to make together and then hold on to when they are parents.

This poem is for a Mother Angels, who is greatly missed and deeply loved

Memories of our time together
are safe and secure in my heart
you taught me so much of life
it saddens me now we`re apart

as the years go by, I miss you more
the way you smiled and hug me tight
freshly baked cakes and a cup of tea
sat together putting the world right!

on this day we celebrate your love

you`re one of a kind, there`s no other

rest easy, knowing we`re doing well

Tractor Man Tom

I grew up in Dorset next to the local dairy farm and have fond memories of seeing tractors all year round.  From delivering feed to harvesting the crops, there was always something going on.  When the silage was ready, it was brought back to the farm in a trailer attached to a tractor and we use to hitch a ride down the hill.

It was an idyllic childhood.  

 

Tractor Man Tom

Sheltered in the corner of the yard

stands the old green John Deere

rustic but still a working engine

ready to go any time of the year !

a great machine for towing equipment

through many different terrains  

from feeding cattle and ploughing

to harvesting the yearly grains

chug, chug, went the old green tractor

puffing out smoke as it travelled by

rumbling through the country lanes

with tractor man Tom. riding high!

Feathered Samurai

Kestrels are such beautiful and amazing birds. Acrobats on the wing and able to chase and capture their prey in the air.

Fly free as the wind, dear Kestrel!

This stunning kestrel watches all

missing nothing with his keen sight

chest puffed out with sheer pride

a coiled spring, all ready for flight

such an awesome bird to behold

he has the strength to over power

then bring down his enemy

this magnificent warrior

dressed so smartly in rustic red

head cap and wings a deep slate blue

dark beady eyes and sharp hooked beak

brings fear to all who come into view

with long sharp menacing talons

as his most striking feature

he`s mastered all that he surveys

this powerful cunning creature

it`s a wonderful privilege

to watch him glide high in the sky

and to hear his call on the wind

as he dives down on his prey with flair

fly free as the wind dear kestrel

soar high above the countryside

smartly dressed in your fine colours

knowing your there, fills us with pride!

Love of Nature

Love of Nature!

Mother nature can be so calming
helping us throughout this past year
lockdowns, social distancing and masks
this invisible enemy brings great fear

walking through the local park
wildlife to be found everywhere 
ducks, coots and  geese on the pond
watching at the calls fill the air

amongst the trees, squirrels scamper
searching for food and having such fun
many chirping birds over head
and dogs enjoying walks in the sun!

Mother Nature feeds the soul
calm and supportive in this time
strolling among the landscape and trees
listening to wildlife in it`s prime.

Disappearing Snow Leopard

 

I have always admired big cats but my all time favourite is the Snow Leopard.

They are amazing creatures. surviving in harsh terrains.  Beautiful and elegant cats full of determination to bring up their family.

Disappearing Snow Leopard

A desolate snow covered landscape

where strong winds blast the rock face

and with very little vegetation

what could survive in this cold place ?

such a harsh environment

steep imposing cliffs meet the ground

where habitats give good camouflage

rare snow leopards maybe found

in lush thick white, and yellow fur

marked by ringed spots of black on brown

watching all with such light green eyes

planning to bring their next prey down

snow leopards have beautiful long tails

paws adapted to walk on deep snow

able to ambush unsuspecting prey

chasing them down before the fatal blow

mostly active between dawn and dusk

this big silent cat that can`t roar

solitary by nature, `til breeding

their survival we must ensure

sadly these majestic creatures

are becoming such a rare sight

through loss of their range and hunting

this means they are losing their fight

I don`t need a special day

to show I care for my mother

each and every day`s the best

for she`s unlike any other

great cook and loves a cuddle

always ready to lend a hand

Rain`s on the Way

Rain`s on the Way...

The skies darken over head

for clouds are rolling in

there seems a heaviness

I can feel it begin

the air starts to change now

a weight upon my shoulder

the first large drops of rain

makes the day seem colder

every drop of rain seems heavy

splashing upon the ground

I hear them in my mind`s eye

as they're landing all around

sky looks so foreboding

it`s like the dead of night

almost claustrophobic

wow, such an eerie sight

then the flood gates open

torrential rain pouring down

thundering on the roof tops

feel I'm going to drown

curled up safe on my sofa

this is where I`ll reside

let the stormy skies continue

for I`m warm and snug inside.

Storm Eunice

With Storm Eunice hitting the UK,  hope you`ve all battened down the hatches and are stay warm and cosy indoors. As I post this the wind is howling outside and my little cat has taken refuge in her bed.

Storm Eunice

The sky begins to darken 

as rain will soon lash down

winds blasting from the west

hitting many a city and town

batten down the hatches

this storm will be so fierce

trees and houses will be hit

howling gales that pierce

with roads and bridges closed

and no trains will run today

all school are empty now

not a child seen out to play

it`s best to remain indoors

safe from this howling storm

while winds and rain rage on

where we`ll be safe and warm

Be aware of Sadness

People can find themselves struggling with loneliness and depression.  Sometimes a small gesture, such as a text, a call or even a note, can be uplifting and very much appreciated.

A little Kindness

a simple message, text or call

or a short written sentence

just to say hi, are you ok?

can make all the difference

share kindness to help others 

supporting all those in need

for when we are feeling down

there`s someone to intercede

it`s not wrong to feel sadness

life can be extremely rough

with friends around to help us

we`ll show sadness, who`s tough!

As spring warms up Mother earth

the ink in my pen flows freely

skipping across my page

painting bright pictures for all to read

      smile and the words leap for joy....!

Twenty Plume Moth

 Twenty Plume Moth

(Alucita hexadactyla)

With lacy wings spread out wide

delicate purples and white

a cloak made up of feathers

fanned in the evening light

long antenna angled down

matching the lin of the wing

slender legs helping in flight

caught on the breezes of spring

fluttering among flowers

appears suspended in mid air

this strikingly beautiful moth

spreading its plumes with great flair!
