Day 30 NaPoWriMov Challenge

It`s the final day of our challenge and today we`re challenged to write a minimalist poem.  This is a poem that is quite short, doesn’t really try to tell a story but to quickly and simply capture an image or emotion.

Peace

Silence is silver
peace mirrored
feeling content

Day 29  NaPoWriMo Challenge

Today we`re challenged to write a poem that meditates, from a position of tranquillity, on an emotion you have felt powerfully.

Burning Anger ..!

Anger heightened by emotions
buried deep within the soul
flowing freely through my body
as this pain takes control

this is felt with every fibre
causing unseen damage and pain
discord is so destructive
chastising again and again!

passionate words that scold
burning my heart so deeply
release this anger, let it go
renew the love and set it free!

Can't Sleep !!

Even though, over the past few nights, I've had very little rest and my head is throbbing through tiredness,  I still can not sleep.

My daily routine is out of place. Early to wake for no apparent reason and too awake to head to bed but still I can not sleep !

I find myself stuck in this no man's land of awakeness …. a zombie .... it would appear ! I work through my chores and help my children with the troubles, yet, still I can not sleep.

As I dose in front of the television, I feel its time for me to slumber. So up the stairs I climb, only to lay in bed for hours as rest eludes me.  Wishing I could go to sleep.

So as I lie cosy in my bed, I prayer that I can drift off and join dream world, thus escaping the stress of all that's been going on. Please may I gentle slip in to sleep.

In my bed I lay, waiting patiently  for my sleep ... I wish with all my heat for sleep to take a hold of me ....I need my sleep !!

Caught in Moonlight

Across the darkened woodland
shafts of moonlight hit the ground
pools of light along the path
beauty seen without a sound !

delicate details of leaves
picked out clearly against black
as hues of wonderous blues
eerily seen further down the track

Colours under the Ocean

under the surface of deep blue
ebbing and flowing each way
a kaleidoscope of colours
seed in the bright light of day

many different creatures
swim along the ocean floor
amongst the rocks and coral
not far from the sandy shore

a flash of shimmering fin
spectacular in morning light
even an eye is seen hiding
creating a mystical sight

a hidden underwater world
brimming with colourful creatures
wonders of the marine life
an ocean filled with treasures

Day 28 NaPoWriMo Challenge

Today we are challenged to try our hand at a meta-poem.  This is a poem about poetry.

A Poem......

A poem can be spoken, yet silent
free flowing water down its course
gentle movement of an ocean
for poetry is of the moment
racing free like a droplet of rain

A poem comes from the heart

warm as blood pumping through veins
never caged or hidden out of sight
but wild as birds soaring on the breeze
released to catch the evening light

A poem can be many different things
from growls of displeasure heard
to leaps of dancers around the Maypole
to each individual see poetry their own way
          vibrant yet so personal

A poem is lyrical, unique in every way
invisible words felt through the soul
emotions expressed with slight of pen
a poem is not an item to have
          its just there to be...

Day 27  NaPoWroMo Challenge

We`re challenged to write a poem by “remixing” a Shakespearean sonnet.
I have chosen Sonnet 12 as I love all aspects of autumn.

Sonnet 12  W Shakespear

When I do count the clock that tells the time,
And see the brave day sunk in hideous night;
When I behold the violet past prime,
And sable curls, all silvered o'er with white;
When lofty trees I see barren of leaves,
Which erst from heat did canopy the herd,
And summer's green all girded up in sheaves,
Borne on the bier with white and bristly beard,
Then of thy beauty do I question make,
That thou among the wastes of time must go,
Since sweets and beauties do themselves forsake
And die as fast as they see others grow;
And nothing 'gainst Time's scythe can make defence
Save breed, to brave him when he takes thee hence.

Autumn  Sonnet 12

When I hear the ticking clock keeping time
see the bright sunset sink into black night
when I see the violet past its prime
and dark wavy hair transformed to silver with age
when tall trees now left bare of leaves
where once they shaded resting herds
and harvested wheat, tied in bales
as white beards ,summer`s taken to it`s grave
when taking your beauty into question
you will be overcome by the ravishes of time
for beautiful creatures can not stay young
they die as fast as others grow old

there`s no defence against time`s scythe
but create offspring to defy time- when he calls!

Day 26  NaPoWriMo Challenge

Today`s challenge is to write a poem that uses repetition. This could be a repeat of a word, a phase, an image or a line.

Many Moons

Half moon, new moon
shining through the night
wolf moon, thunder moon
beaming down so bright

blood moon, eclipsed moon
vivid reds so wonderfully bold
blue moon, black moon
awesome colours to behold

waxing moon, waning moon
growing, shrinking through history
milk moon, blue corn moon
creating magic and mystery

hunters moon, harvest moon
time to bring in all the crops
oak moon, long night`s moon
winter season, iced water drops

Day 25  NaPoWriMo Challenge

Today we are challenged to write a poem that is specific to a season, uses imagery that relates to all the senses (sight, sound, taste, touch and smell) Also to include a rhetorical question.

Spring.

Spring is the season Mother Nature awakes
after slumbering through the cold winter
watching the first buds of life erupt
now Jack Frost has withdrawn his grasp

chirping dawn chorus to wake us up
crisp mornings felt beneath clear skies
a forest of bright bluebells cover the ground
pink blossom fills the air with powerful scent

what tastes would spring enjoy?
red stemmed rhubarb ready for pulling
crunchy salads, new potatoes, chocolate eggs
spring lambs, new birth, life returns to the fields

spring is full of sights and sounds all around us
filling our senses with, taste, touch and smells
emotions tingling our very existence
it's a wonderfully vibrant time of the year!

Day 24  NaPoWriMo Challenge

Today we were challenged to take a dictionary/Thesaurus, open it up at a random page and see what word jumps out at us.

Examine..

Exploring the world around me
X-ray my inner most thoughts
Analyse the many possibilities
Making a study of opportunities
Investigate what went wrong
Never missing the chance to observe
Examining my whole life.

Working Past!

Stepping back into the past, can this be a mistake?

For what was once a thriving scene can cause pain and heart ache

All is desolation in this sad derelict space

Fallen plaster, missing doors, not much left of this place

Many smashed window panes letting the wind whistle through

The ceiling has collapsed, not safe for any of the crew

In what was the office, a small tree is now growing

A leaking roof, how bad it is, no one is knowing

I remember when this was a thriving business here

When many worked within these walls, there was much to cheer

As buildings fall into ruin, only memories remain

All that`s left is for nature to take over again
